Workshop on 'Photography' held at St Aloysius College

Mangalore, March 12: The Department of Journalism of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), in association with Al-Madhyam, the student media forum, organised an inter-collegiate level workshop on 'Photography' on Saturday, March 12.

After inaugurating the event Fr Dr Richard Rego SJ, HOD, Department of Mass Communication, St Aloysius College, said that photography crystallises and perpetualizes the memory.

He also spoke about the history and significance of photography.

In his presidential address Rev Fr Swebert D'silva, Principal, St Aloysius College, opined that the photography has become common these days as most of the people posses camera.

Suresh Basavaraju, award winning wildlife photographer, Vinaya S Kumar and Priya Vinaya, members of the Photographic Society of India and Bobay Natural History Society were the resource persons.

Thafleel U, HOD, Department of Journalism welcomed the gathering. Anjana proposed vote of thanks.

Mangaluru, Jan 23: City Police Commissioner PS Harsha on Thursday said that Aditya Rao, who had surrendered after planting a bomb at the Mangaluru International Airport, had studied how to assemble an explosive device online.

Speaking to media persons here, Dr Harsha said that 36-year-old Rao, who holds engineering and MBA degrees, had worked in the financial sector for some time, but left, after realising that white-collar jobs were not suited for him and turned towards blue-collar jobs.

He took up a job as a security guard of a reputed college in the district. He also worked at few hotels in the city before leaving for Bengaluru.

Bengaluru, Feb 4: The CBI has booked Karnataka cadre senior IPS officers Hemant Nimbalkar and Ajay Hilori along with eight others in connection with Rs 4,000-crore I-Monetary Advisory (IMA) scam in which gullible investors were allegedly cheated in the name of Islamic banking, officials said on Tuesday.

The move came after the CBI received an approval from the Karnataka government to proceed with investigation into alleged role of 1998-batch IPS officer Nimbalkar and 2008-batch IPS officer Hilori, they said.

Along with the two officers, the agency has also named the company IMA, its founder Mansoor Khan and others in the case.

The CBI had approached the state government seeking permission to proceed against the two officers who are in senior positions in the Karnataka Police and allegedly helped IMA founder Masoor Khan, they said.

Mangaluru, Feb 14: Police have submitted over 50 videos in a pen drive to Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha as evidence to violent protests that led to police firing on December 19 in which Jaleel and Nausheen died.

ACP and police nodal officer Belliyappa submitted a pen drive consisting over 50 video clips including CCTV footage. 

The police earlier had submitted 20 digital video recorder (DVR) before the court and an acknowledgement of the same was produced before the Magistrate.

Hearing on video evidence will be held at High Court on February 24.
