Two-month old child drowns in well near Bantwal

Mangalore, March 13: A two-month old child was drowned when the child and its mother accidentally fell in to an open well at Yellyanadagodu of Kolya village in Bantwal taluk on Sunday.

The deceased child has been identified as Danith, son of Surekha, who was rescued by the local people.

It is reported that Surekha, drew water from the well and lost her balance while resting her arm against the pillar of the wall and fell inside along with her child.

The locals jumped into the well and brought both Surekha and the child outside. However, the child did not survive the fall, PSI, Punjalkatte Madhav said. Surekha has been admitted to a private hospital in Moodbidri where she is undergoing treatment. Her condition is said to be stable. A case of unnatural death report has been registered in this regard at Punjalkate police station.

NRI arrested in Karnataka for violating corona quarantine guidelines

Mysuru, Mar 24:m who returned from foreign travel and flouted home quarantine guidelines has been arrested in Mysuru on Monday.

The man, who returned from Australia, had a seal on his hand but was roaming around the city.

According to police, he was supposed to be under home quarantine till April 6. V V Puram Police took him into custody.

SC stays K'taka HC order granting bail to 21 PFI members accused of violence during anti-CAA protests

New Delhi, Mar 7: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the bail granted by Karnataka High Court to 21 Popular Front of India (PFI) members accused in connection with violence that erupted during the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Karnataka's Mangaluru in December 2019.

On February 17, the High Court had granted bail to the accused on the bail petition filed by Mohammed Ashik.

A bench consisting Chief Justice S A Bobde issued notice to the accused on Friday after taking cognisance of the plea filed by Karnataka government against the bail granted by the High Court.

Appearing for the state government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta criticised the High Court's order stating that at least 56 policemen sustained injuries during the violent protests.

Two persons identified as Jaleel (43) of Kudroli and Nousheen (49) of Bengre had died at a private hospital following the bullet injuries they sustained in an alleged police firing during a protest against CAA 2019.

Kamal Pant is new Bengaluru police chief; Bhaskar Rao transferred

Bengaluru, Aug 1: The Karnataka government on Friday brought in Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Kamal Pant as the Bengaluru police Commissioner in a reshuffle of police personnel.

Pant comes in as the city police Commissioner in place of Bhaskar Rao.

According to a government order, Rao will handle internal security as ADGP, a post which was lying vacant due to the promotion of P S Sandhu.

Along with the two officials, ADGP B Dayananda who was in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department and Economic Offences, has been made the new intelligence chief.
