FMCI celebrates Institution day

Mangalore, March 14: Father Muller Charitable Institution on Sunday celebrated its Institution day cum Graduation Ceremony.

The Chief Guest was Dr Veerappa Moily, Minister of Law & Justice Government of India. Dr Ramananda Shetty, Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, Bangalore was the guest of honour.

In his speech Dr Moily said that Fr Augustus Muller started a milestone journey of his life by stepping up the Leprosy Hospital. He urged the graduates to practice evidence based medicine and live up to the oath of Hippocrates.

Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore presided over the function.

Various awards and certificates were given to the graduates.

Inaugural of Silver Jubilee of Fr Muller College of Nursing “Aglow 11/12” took place.

Vice Chancellor, the guest of honour for the day then gave his views, followed by the Bishop's speech.

Vote of thanks was given by Rev Fr Denis D'Sa, Administrator of Fr Muller Medical College, Fr Muller College of Nursing.

The ceremony ended with Institution Anthem, Screening of Fr Muller College of Nursing Documentary, Graduation Dinner and entertainment programme by the students.

Mangaluru, May 2:  Fishermen in the coastal districts fear that the fishing season ending on May 31 every year might be rescheduled early this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement department of fisheries on sturday said fishing season is closed for 61 days every year before the arrival of the monsoon.

As per the data with the Fisheries Department, this year the number of fishes caught has set a record.

Hubli, Feb 17: A local court here on Monday sent three Kashmiri students who were arrested on charges of sedition to judicial custody till March 2.

They were arrested for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans and posting a video of the same on social media, told police.

All three were taken into custody by the police on Sunday night and were produced before a local court on Monday.

Bengalur, May 15: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan on Friday said that stern action will be taken against the persons responsible for organising the village temple fair in Ramanagara district.

"Stern action will be taken against the person responsible for organising the festival. This should not have happened," the Deputy CM said.

Flouting all social distancing norms, people had gathered in large numbers for a temple fair in Kolagondanahalli village of Ramanagara. People were even not wearing masks.

They had taken permission for gathering from Panchayat Development Officer NC Kalmatt.

Kalmatt has been suspended by Ramanagara Deputy Commissioner following a report by the Tehsildar.

Meanwhile, 45 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 1,032 on Friday, according to the state Health Department.
