Mahavira College celebrates Founder's Day

Moodbidri, March 14: Students should utilize all the opportunities to be competent by engaging themselves in extra-curricular activities, said Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva's Education Foundation.

He was speaking after inaugurating Founder's Day and Annual day of Sri Mahavira College here.

MLA Abhaycandra Jain presided over the function.

Prof Chandrashekhar Deekshith, Principal of the College presented the annual report of the college. Dr SP Vidya Kumar addressed the gathering.

Amarnath Shetty, Trustee of the College, Nanda Kumar Kudwa and Shankar Bhat, President of PTA were present.

Mangaluru: Saffron ‘activist’ held for death threat against Sindhu B Rupesh

Mangaluru, July 29: The police have managed to nab a youth in connection with issuing death threat against IAS officer Sindhu B Rupesh, the outgoing deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

The arrested has been identified as Ranjit, a resident of Bajpe, on the outskirts of the city. He is said to be Hindutva activist.

The death threat came in the wake of the officer’s warning against attack on cattle traders by anti-social elements ahead of Eid al-Adha.

Even though the IAS officer had not lodged any complaint, Moodbidri police had registered a suo motu case after a WhatsApp screenshot of the death threat went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Sindhu B Rupesh was transferred and posted as director, electronic delivery citizen services (EDCS), DP & AR (e governance) Bengaluru.

Dakshina Kannada: Section 144(3) imposed during night after migrant workers protest

Mangaluru, May 7: Thousands of migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, led by Congress leader Mithun Rai, staged a protest here on Wednesday demanding that they be allowed to return to their native places.

The workers started a protest demonstration opposite Mangaluru City Corporation office in the city. Police dispersed the crowd for violating social distancing norms.

The workers said they have nowhere to go and nothing to eat. Therefore, they are demanding to be sent back to their states. They however, had crowded together without following the social distance norm.

In the wake of protest, prohibitory orders under section 144(3) were imposed in Dakshina Kannada district between 7pm and 7 am till May 17 to check the spread of Covid-19.

Katakana: RSS suspends its programme over COVID-19

Bengaluru, Mar 14: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Saturday suspended its proposed Akil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) meeting scheduled to be held in the outskirts of the city, in the wake of the outbreak of Coronavirus in the state.

'In view of the seriousness of the pandemic COVID-19 and in the light of instructions and advisories thereof issues by the Union and the state governments, the Akil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha meeting scheduled in Bengaluru has been suspended', Sarakaryavah Suresh Joshi tweeted.

All Swayamsevaks should cooperate with the administrations to create awareness among the public and to face this successfully, he said.

It may be recalled that Karnataka State Government had ordered shut down of pubs, malls, theatres, and ban mass gatherings over the Coronavirus scare, on Friday.
