Govt's decision on Tulu has upset people of Tulunadu'

Mangalore, March 18: The written reply of State Kannada and Culture Minister M Govinda Karajola in the assembly regarding Union government's announcement that Tulu cannot be considered for national recognition or included in 8th schedule of Indian Constitution in a given time frame, has upset the entire Tulu speaking community said K Mohandas Bhandary, President of Tulu Aisiri Mangalore.

Addressing the media persons at Press Club here on Friday, Bhandary said that those Tulu speaking people are spread across the world in crores and the government has published age-old statistics of the population.

He also demanded the state government to sanction Rs 2 crores to build a “Tulu Bhavan” as promised earlier.

He said the government should stop playing with lives of Tulu people by introducing or supporting anti-environmental projects like MSEZ, UPCL etc.

Demanding the Nethravathi diversion project to be dropped, Bhandary urged the government not to take away drinking water from the coastal people.

He urged both union and state governments to put an end to scandals and give a fair administration.

Sadananda Sherigar, Dr Rajashri R Shetty, Yashodha Mohan and others were present at the press meet.

Shobha Karandlaje claims 'corona jihad' behind Markaz Nizamuddin gathering

Chikmagalur, April 5: BJP Lok Sabha MP from Udupi Chikmagalur Shobha Karandlaje on Saturday claimed that "efforts to spread coronavirus throughout the country" began at Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi and termed it as "corona jihad".

"Efforts began at Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi to spread coronavirus throughout the country.

Most of the attendees of that event are untraceable. There seems to be 'corona Jihadi plan' behind that meeting," she said while speaking to reporters here.

Meanwhile, according to officials, out of the seven new cases from Mysuru, two cases are connected to the Jubilant Generics cluster while the rest five cases have a travel history to Delhi.

Total positive cases of COVID-19 in India stand at 3072.

11 new COVID-19 cases reported in Karnataka; total 576

Bengaluru, May 1: Karnataka has reported 11 new cases of coronavirus, taking the State's count to 576, informed the Health Department on Friday.

Out of the total COVID-19 cases found in the State, 235 people have been discharged and 22 people have died.

"11 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka from April 30, 5 pm till noon today, taking the total number of cases to 576, which includes 22 deaths and 235 discharges," said the State government COVID-19 bulletin.

Mosque to host Hindu couple’s marriage

Alappuzha, Jan 4: The management committee of a mosque in Kerala is all set to solemnize the wedding of a Hindu couple, setting yet another instance of the communal harmony prevailing in Kerala.

The Cheravally Muslim Jamaat Committee at Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district in South Kerala is conducting the marriage of Anju and Sharath after the bride's mother approached the Jamaat authorities seeking help.

The marriage will be held at the mosque premises on January 19 as per Hindu rituals and the Jamaat Committee has also prepared the invitations.

Anju's father Ashokan died a few years back and her mother Bindhu was struggling to win bread for her three children. Nujumudeen Alummoottil, a businessman and secretary of the Jamaat had helped the family earlier also.

Hence Bindu sought his help for the marriage of Anju. Nujumudeen discussed it with other members of the Jamaat committee and members of the mosque.

Najumudeen said that there was no hesitation from anyone on conducting the marriage by the mosque at its premises. A gift in cash and gold would be also given to the couple.

Kerala recently witnessed a church allowing the Muslim believers who participated in an anti-CAA meet to offer namaz at the church premises and another church conducting a carol service with the youth of the parish dressed up in traditional Muslim attire.

Kerala is unique in India for cordial relation between different religions. However, this is not being digested by sanghis and are trying to build gulf between the communities.
