Hosangadi GP receives sanitation award

Mangalore, March 20: Hosangadi village in Dakshina Kannada on Saturday received the sanitation award in Bangalore, instituted as part of the Total Sanitation Campaign, at the gram panchayat level.




Conferring the 'Nairmalya Ratna' and 'Swarna Nairmalya' awards, Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said that the Government was determined to end the practice of open defecation that still exists in some parts of the state in the next two years and envisaged a programme to accomplish the task.




He said that a subsidy of Rs. 2,500 that was being given to below the poverty line families, who want to build toilets in their houses, had been increased to Rs. 3,000.



Detailing the programmes envisaged by the Bharatiya Janata Party Government for rural development and empowering women, the Chief Minister called upon the elected representatives to create confidence among the people in the system of decentralisation.



Presiding over the function, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Jagadish Shettar said the award recipient gram panchayats would become a model for others.



The sanitation campaign had achieved 67 per cent success all over the State, and 39 lakh of the targeted 58 lakh toilets had been built.



People's involvement



Total involvement of the people in rural areas was the primary need to achieve the target, he noted.



“People in rural parts are more interested in having cellphones than toilets in their houses. The Government cannot do everything; the mission could be accomplished only with the active participation of elected representatives and people,” he observed.



Shettar said total sanitation could be achieved only if all the 90,000 members of gram, taluk and zilla panchayat members take initiative in the Total Sanitation Programme.



Dakshina Kannada and Shimoga districts, Tirthahalli, Karkala and Yellapur taluks, Hosangadi in Dakshina Kannada, Bashettyhalli in Bangalore Rural and Kothali in Belgaum gram panchayats received the district, taluk and gram panchayat level 'Nairmalya Rathna' awards.



Bashettyhalli, Taralu (Bangalore city), Chatnahalli (Davangere), Tambrahalli (Bellary), Bhagyanagar (Koppal), Devikere (Yadgir), Kothali (Belgaum), Anagodu (Uttara Kannada), Gondi (Haveri), Hosangadi (Dakshina Kannada), Hakattur (Kodagu) and Mala (Udupi) gram panchayats were given the 'Swarna Nairmalya' awards.

Bhopal, Mar 7: Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera on Saturday said that he was not in any kind of captivity in Bengaluru and he will meet Chief Minister Kamal Nath soon.

"I was in Bengaluru for my daughter's medical treatment. I was not in any kind of captivity. I will meet CM Kamal Nath soon," Shera told reporters here upon returning to Bhopal from Bengaluru.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh alleged that the BJP had escorted four Madhya Pradesh MLAs, including three from his party, to Bengaluru.

"Last night, two charter planes were booked by BJP to take MLAs to Bengaluru. One was a 9-seater plane while the other was 12-seater. In the 12-seater plane, four MLAs were taken to Bengaluru. Out of them, three Congress MLAs Bisahulal Singh, Raghuraj Kansana and Hardeep Dang and one Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera," Singh had said.

He has accused BJP of resorting to horse-trading in order to bring down the Kamal Nath government.

Mangaluru, Jan 11: A large number of people from the Women India Movement on Saturday staged a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) here and raised slogans denouncing the newly enacted law.

Protestors were seen carrying placards that read, 'Stop diving India, Boycott CAA, NRC, NPR', 'We are humans, not criminals', 'Save India from fascism'.

"Today's youths are tomorrow's future. The present leaders are scared by the youths and are trying to wipe us out. They are scared of the students because they are raising their voices," a protestor told media.

"It started with the triple talaq, then the removal of Article 370 and Babri Masjid verdict. We Muslims kept quiet but now it is a question to our Constitution. We are not here as Muslims but as an Indian Citizen protesting against the cruelty of the BJP government," she added.

The protestor said the Central government is trying to make India a Hindu Rashtra by wiping out all other communities.

"This fascist government is trying to poison the minds of Hindus against the Muslims. After Muslims, there will be the Christian community and then other communities. The main motive of the government is to only keep Brahmins in India," added the protestor.

The newly-enacted law grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

Mangaluru, July 28: In an unexpected development, the government of Karnataka has transferred Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.

The development comes days after the IAS officer warned of legal action against those attacking cattle traders in the region.

Another IAS officer Dr Rajendra K V who was the CEO of Belagavi Zilla Panchayat, has been transferred and posted as the new Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

Dr Rajendra is a medical doctor graduated from Bapuji Medical College, Davangere. He had secured the 32nd rank in the civil services examination in 2013.

Sindhu B Rupesh had taken over as DK DC in September 2019.  Now, she is posted as the director, electronic delivery citizen services (EDCS), DP & AR (e governance) Bengaluru.
