RTA revises rates for minimum bus fares

Mangalore, March 21: The Regional Transport Authority has raised the minimum bus fare (both urban and rural) for the first 2 km from Rs. 4 to Rs. 4.50 with effect from March 23. The fare for the remaining stages will be the same as the one fixed on January 21, according to an official press release.



The minimum bus fare was revised by the Authority headed by Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav, following the directions of the Karnataka High Court.



However, the Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association has said that it is not ready to accept the hike, which doesn't meet their demand.



Aziz Partippady, General Secretary of the association has said that the revised fares announced by the Regional Transport Authority are not advantageous for city buses, and therefore, the association does not concur with the fare fixed for them.



“The association had put forth a demand for hike in city bus fares, duly informing the authority about serious problems relating to bus maintenance and other costs being faced by bus owners, while scientifically submitting a proposal for fare hike. In the recent general body meeting of the association, it was decided to revise the fares only after a justified hike based on scientific calculations is permitted,” he explained.



Aziz noted that the last time the bus fare had gone up, was in 2008. Since then, cost of diesel, oil, chassis, spare parts, repair cost etc, have gone up, and there are indications about further rise in the price of diesel shortly, he added. He stressed that a fare hike calculated on actual cost basis can only save the bus operators from the grave problems of running their business.



Revised fare


For buses running in the city, following are the new rates (with old rates in bracket): up to 2 km Rs. 4.50 (Rs. 4); up to 4 km Rs. 5 (Rs. 5); up to 6 km Rs. 6 (Rs. 6), up to 8 km Rs. 7 (Rs. 7) up to 10 km Rs. 7 (Rs. 7), up to 12 km Rs. 8 (Rs. 8), up to 14 km Rs. 8 (Rs. 8); up to 16 km Rs. 9 (Rs. 9); up to 18 km Rs. 9 (Rs. 9), up to 20 km Rs. 10 (Rs. 10). For city buses (rural) the new rates are : up to 2 km Rs. 4.50 (Rs. 4) up to 4 km Rs. 5 (Rs. 5); up to 6 km Rs. 6 (Rs. 6), up to 8 km Rs. 6 (Rs. 6) up to 10 km Rs. 7 (Rs. 7), up to 12 km Rs. 7 (Rs. 7), up to 14 km Rs. 8 (Rs. 8); up to 16 km Rs. 9 (Rs. 9); up to 18 km Rs. 10 (Rs. 10), up to 20 km Rs. 11 (Rs. 11), up to 22 km Rs. 12 (Rs. 12), up to 24 km Rs. 13 (Rs. 13), up to 26 km Rs. 14 (Rs. 14), up to 28 km Rs. 15 (Rs. 15).

Bengaluru, Jun 6: Karnataka registered 378 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, breaching the 5,000-mark to settle at 5,213, said an official, here on Saturday. "New cases reported from Friday 5 p.m. to Saturday 6 p.m. is 378," said a health official.

Of the new cases, 333 are local returnees, comprising 88 per cent of the new infections. Returnees from Maharashtra accounted for 99 per cent new cases at 329.

Majority infections in Karnataka nowadays are returnees, mostly from the state''s northern neighbour. Only 27 new infections were contacts of earlier cases.

On Saturday, cases spiked in Udupi, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Bengaluru Urban, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Davangere and Dakshina Kannada.

Udupi witnessed the highest number of cases (121), followed by Yadgir (103), Kalaburagi (69), Dakshina Kannada (24), Bengaluru Urban (18), Vijayapura and Davangere (6 each), Belagavi (5), Gadag (4), Mandya, Hassan, Dharwad and Haveri (3 each), Raichur, Chikkaballapura and Uttara Kannada (2 each) and Bidar, Tumkur, Kolar and Koppal (1 each).

Among the new cases, three patients from Bengaluru Urban are suffering from Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and another from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

There were seven cases with international travel history to United Arab Emirates (UAE) and one to Turkey.

Meanwhile, 280 people were discharged in the past 24 hours and two persons succumbed to the virus, one from Bidar and another from Vijayapura. Of all the cases, 3,184 are active, 1,968 discharged, 59 dead and 11 in the ICU.

In the past 24 hours, Karnataka tested 11,862 people, of which 11,431 reports returned negative. In total, 3.72 lakh samples have been tested so far, of which 3.61 lakh have returned negative.

Currently, Udupi is leading the state''s Covid-19 burden with 785 active cases, followed by Kalaburagi (448), Yadgir (407), Raichur (320) and Mandya (163) among others.

Bengaluru Urban has accounted for 13 deaths, followed by Kalaburagi (7), Bidar, Vijayapura, Davangere and Dakshina Kannada (6 each) and Chikkaballapura (3 each), among others.

Bengaluru, Jun 18: Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) was reprimanded for withholding information, sought by a candidate regarding an examination held in 2005 for Gazeted Probationary posts, by the State Information Commissioner here on Thursday.

According to official sources, the State Information Commissioner NP Ramesh, while disposing off a petition by the candidate, who had written an examination conducted by the KPSC for the gazeted probationary posts held in 2005, had directed to provide the information sought by the candidate, free of costs within ten days.

The State Information Commissioner in his order had termed the conduct of the KPSC as against the spirit of transparency among the public authorities.

Madikeri, Jun 5: Karnataka Minister for Revenue R Ashok said a Rs 10 crore grant would be released shortly for construction of a permanent building for 'Relief Centre' in Kodagu district which is vulnerable to floods because of its hilly landscape.

According to an official release here on Friday, the Minister symbolically handed over the newly built houses to flood victims in Jambur in Somwarpet on Thursday evening.

He said that whenever the 'Relief Centre' is vacant it will be used for government meetings.
