AIMIT team wins championship in 'Semaphore 2011' Fest

Mangalore, March 22: AIMIT students of IT section won the prestigious Overall Championship in SEMAPHORE 2011, the National level MCA fest conducted by the Department of MCA, NMAM Institute of Technology, NITTE College, Karkala, wherein 13 teams participated.



AIMIT had to compete with some of the leading MCA colleges like St Joseph college, MIT, Christu Jayanthi College, and Srinivas College. Two teams from AIMIT, St Aloysius College participated in this National level fest and won the overallchampionship defeating the participating colleges. The event was held on March 18 and 19.



Events like Ice Breaker, Coding, Gaming, IT Quiz, Flip Flop, Buggy Breaks, Media Master, Culturals, Transtring, Project Demonstration, Image & Video Editing, Web Designing and Treasure Hunt were held in this Two- day IT fest for Postgraduate students.



The 2nd years' team bagged four prizes & the overall championship.



Cedric Mascarenhas won the first place in Best Manager Event. Mohammed Fahad & Sharat Bangera won the first place in Paper Presentation. Cedric Mascarenhas, Mohammad Fahad , Sharath Bangera, Reshma Tellis, Ashwini Bhat, Arun Jose, Shashank N S & Lawrence Lobo won the first place in Mad Ads & second place in Culturals.



The First years' team bagged two prizes.



John Rasquinha won the first place in Treasure Hunt, while Rizwan Khan, Leoraj Dsouza, Daryl Crasta, Irfan M, John Rasquinha, Ms. Srinidhi Prabhu, Steffi, Stalin D, Renita Dsilva, and Veena Mathias won the first place in Culturals.

Mangaluru, Jan 8: A 23-year-old youth has been booked under the POCSO Act on charges of abduction and sexual abuse of a minor girl.

Police said on Wednesday day that the accused identified as Aneesh Dias, a resident of Chikkamadnur has reportedly gone absconding. The victim, who hails from Puttur, is a I PU college student.

The victim's parents had filed a missing complaint with Puttur Rural police as their daughter did not return home after leaving home for college. The police investigating the complaint traced the girl.

Bengaluru, Mar 12: Days after a video of an elephant being shot in Bandipur National Park went viral on social media, officials said that they have removed a staffer and initiated action against an employee of the Karnataka Forest Department in the matter.

According to officials, the incident took place on March 7.

"We have removed Rahim, temporary staffer, and initiated action against Umesh, a permanent employee of the Karnataka Forest Department, after an internal enquiry," Bandipur field director T Balchandra said.

While Rahim is said to have shot the charging elephant, Umesh reportedly made the video and shared it on social media.

Bengaluru, Mar 6: School children in Karnataka will have 'bag-free' days on two Saturdays in a month as part of efforts to create a joyful learning experience, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced on Thursday. By making two Saturdays in a month as bag-free days, "Sambhrama Shanivara" will be observed with the objective of creating a joyful learning experience by reducing the burden of text books, he said, presenting the 2020-21 budget in the state assembly.

"The main purpose of such days is to create awareness, by means of activities, on topics that are necessary for students to be ideal citizens," he added.

He also said for the first time in the history of the state his government presented a "child budget", making it a special feature of the budget.

All the policies and programmes for the development of children below the age of 18 are consolidated and presented in this budget and as many as 279 programmes involving Rs.36,340crore, which is 15.28 per cent of the total volume of the Budget, have been earmarked.

English medium of instruction would be given along with Urdu in 400 government Urdu schools and Rs one crore will be provided during 2020-21 for this purpose, Mr Yediyurappa said.

For the education of children of auto drivers, up to Rs 2,000 would be provided annually to each family. For this purpose, Rs 40 crore will be provided in the coming fiscal, the Chief Minister added.
