Hailing from Achangimane in Sakleshpur Taluk, the accused Ansar Ahmed had married Safiya from Thekkaru village in Belthangady taluk about three years ago. Subsequently, he married Shahida a last year.
On Sunday, Safiya and Shahida found around 200 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh from their houses after their husband met them.
In the process of his search for the Mr bigamist, first wife Safiya's father realised that his son-in-law had secretly added one more woman to the list of his wives. Asma from Belapu village in Udupi district too entered the list of Ansar as the new better half (or rather one third).
While marrying Safiya, Ansar had received a cash amount of Rs 1 lakh plus ten sovereigns of gold as dowry. In a complaint lodged by Safiya at Belthangady police station, they have accused Ansar that even after selling her gold, and detaching relationship with her for past six months, he would torture her mentally and her parents demanding more dowry.
Safiya has urged the police to take strict action against her husband to prevent more innocent girls from becoming his victims.
