Udupi, March 26: Dr Y S Ravikumar of 2007 IPS cadre took charge as Udupi Superintendent of Police here on Friday.

Speaking to mediapersons soon after assuming the office, Ravikumar said utmost attention will be given to maintain law and order in the district. Measures will be taken to check crime activities like house robbery and chain snatching cases. Evening and late night beats will be organised to control the crime rates.

He said naxal problem has come down and about 90 per cent naxal activities have been curbed. However, there are rumours that the naxal leaders seek support from the inhabitants of the naxal prone areas by threatening and also by pleading them. If these speculations are found right, immediate measures will be taken to tackle the naxal menace in the area, he added.

Non bailable warrant
He said moral policing is illegal and the people involved in moral policing will be charged under IPC sections by issuing non bailable warrant. It is against social morale, he added.

Morning hours will be exclusively meant to address public grievances, he said.
