Mangalore, April 1: The security of women employees working for BPO firms has come under scanner, as two women en route to their work place, an MNC on MG road were assaulted by a mob celebrating the success of India's victory over Pakistan at the semi finals of ICC world cup match near Mahaveer circle (Pumpwell) on Wednesday night.

As India sealed its victory, cricket crazy fans hit the road near Mahaveer Circle and begun bursting crackers on the entire stretch of road up to Naguri.

Eyewitnesses told that the company's cab carrying two women employees from Bejai and two security guards including a woman were forced to stop the due to the bursting crackers.

Youths in frenzy seized the opportunity to create nuisance. They rounded the cab and began questioning the BPO employees on where they were headed at an unearthly hour of 11 pm.

Taken aback by the rude behavior of youth, the girls remained tight lipped hoping that their silence would convince the youth to allow their vehicle move on.

However, the situation turned grave when a youth slapped the BPO employees. The male security guard who attempted to intervene was assaulted by three people. The cab driver displaying a remarkable presence of mind accelerated and drove away from the place preventing the ugly incident from turning into a major violence.

“The BPO employees were completely shaken by the turn of event in which one woman had a bleeding nose,” an eyewitness said who was present at the spot.

He added that one of the victims asked the mob, “As employees of MNC we work on night shifts. When our parents do not comment on our job, why should a complete stranger feel bothered?

The eyewitness also said that not a single cop was seen in the locality. The BPO employees did report about the incident to their firm and they suspected members of Hindu vigilante groups like Bajarangadal or Sri Rama Sene were behind the attack. An officer in the firm requesting anonymity said that they would not lodge the complaint with the police.

“We have not lodged any complaint so as not to create panic among other female employees in the firm. We have adopted a policy that respects the rights of female employees. Thus their request on not to file complaints which would create media hype has been respected,” the top official informed.

When contacted, Bajaranga Dal district convener Sharan Pumpwell and Sri Rama Sene Secretary Yogish Farangipet denied the involvement of members in the incident.

When the minister shared the TikTok video, people pointed out that the minister should know better and that he should urge his family to boycott the Chinese video-sharing platform and lead by example.

Many were miffed that a BJP leader put up a TikTok video at a time when tensions are running high between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
