St Antony's Feast celebrated in city

Mangalore, June 14: The Holy Eucharistic Celebration in Our Lady of Miracle Church, Milagres, by St. Antony Ashram, Jeppu, was held on the occasion of St Antony's Feast on Monday, June 13.

As a preparation for the feast three days Novena along with Sermon was held by Rev. Fr. Sunil Kumar D'Souza (Parish Priest, Thaneer Bavi). On the festal day the main celebrant of the Holy Mass was Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D'souza. Fr. Walter D'souza D'mello (Parish Priest, Milagres), Fr. Francis D'souza (Administrator, St. Antony Ashram, Jeppu), Fr. Uday D'souza (Assistant director, St. Antony Ashram, Jeppu) were the co- celebrant of the mass.

Rt. Rev. Msgr Dennis Moras Prabhu (Vicar General and Director, St. Antony Ashram) gave away the vote of thanks.

Many devotes, took part in the celebration and invoked the special graces from the 'Saint of Miracles'.

St. Antony of Padua was born on August 15 1195 in Lisbon, Portugal. He preached in many cities of Northern Italy and Southern France. He is believed to have brought back to God many sinners mostly by his good example. He died at the age of 36 on 13 June, 1231. He was Canonized within a year of his death by Pope Gregory IX and was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius XII in 1946. His shrine is one of the biggest crowd pulling pilgrim centres in Italy. He is known as the finder of the lost articles, patron of lovers and worried couples, of women in confinement, a helper against diabolical obsession, fever, and animal disease.

Bengaluru, Mar 6: PVR Cinemas on Friday launched its five-screen multiplex in here, augmenting its presence in Karnataka across 15 properties to 103 screens and to 46 properties and 286 screens in southern India.

With this opening, PVR consolidates its growth momentum in the current financial year 2019-20, so far opening 83 screens in the year and bringing its portfolio to 841 screens at 176 properties in 71 cities.

"We feel proud to cross the 100 screens milestone in the state of Karnataka at the very beginning of the year," said Joint Managing Director Sanjeev Kumar Bijli.

"Southern India has a strong market with significant growth potential. In Bengaluru, we have introduced some of our best formats and offerings owing to the nature of preferences by our customers," he said in a statement.

Pramod Arora, Chief Growth and Strategy Officer at PVR Ltd, said the company will continue to enhance the consumer experience through innovation and set new benchmarks in the Indian multiplex industry.

Bengaluru, Jun 18: With Karnataka observing 'Mask Day' today, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that the state has organised a walk from Vidhana Soudha to Cubbon Park to create awareness about the importance of wearing a mask as a preventive measure against COVID-19.

"We are celebrating 'Mask Day' at all district headquarters today. We have organised a walk from Vidhana Soudha (to Cubbon Park) to create awareness about the importance of wearing a mask as a preventive measure against COVID-19," Yediyurappa told media persons here.

Earlier, the Chief Minister has said that film actors and sports personalities will take part in the event and it will be celebrated in all taluks as well.

"We will take strict action against those who are not maintaining social distancing. A fine of Rs 200 will be imposed on those for not wearing a mask in public places," he had said.

As many as 7,530 people have detected positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka, of which 94 people have succumbed to the infection till date, as per the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

Bengaluru, Apr 6: Karnataka State Board for Auqaf on Monday suspended mass prayers and visit to the Qabrasthans (graveyards) and dargahs on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on April 9 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"It is hereby directed to all not to hold congregational prayer in the Masjid and the management of the Qabrasthans/Dargahs throughout the State should suspend the visit of public on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on Thursday, April 9," according to a statement here on Monday.

It said, no public shall be allowed to perform religious rituals in the Qabrasthans/Dargahs and all the gates shall be kept closed.
