Udupi, June 17: One person drowned and one house was damaged owing to heavy rain in Udupi district on Thursday.
Sources in the Kundapur taluk office said Uday Poojary (40) drowned after he slipped and fell into the Chakra river at Kudru in Katbelthur village. Sources in the Udupi taluk office said that 50 metres of sea wall was washed away at Padukere near Udyavara village. The house of Jayanti Bovi was partially damaged at Rajiv Nagar in Heroor village. The loss had been estimated at Rs. 50,000.
According to information provided by the control room at the Deputy Commissioner's Office, Udupi received 54 mm of rain. Kundapur received 73.8 mm, while Karkala recorded 34.4 mm rain.
Forecast
The Met Department has forecast heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds blowing at a speed of 45 to 55 km per hour in the district in the next 48 hours.
