Death of MF Husain, other artists mourned
June 18, 2011
Mangalore, June 18: 'Samudaya' a socio-cultural organisation conducted a memorial meeting to mourn the death of legend artist MF Hussain, Lingadevaru Halemane, Director of Rangayana and dramatist Badal Sarcar here at 'Vikasa' building near Hamilton Circle.
Speaking on the occasion, Vasudeva Uchil, Secretary of Samudaya said that Halemane carved a niche in the field of academics, literature and theatre. He said Halemane was among the directors who maintained good rapport with the artistes and knit together as a team, setting aside the differences. Only a few directors could achieve it so far, he opined. When Samudaya organised the 'Raithanatta Jatha' in 1978, he played a major role in organising workers from Kodagu, Mangalore and Mysore.
Speaking about the dramatist Badal Sarkar, theatre actor Chandrahas Ullal said that Badal Sircar's death leaves void in contemporary Indian theatre. Having penned over fifty plays, Sircar is revered for his anti-establishment works during the Naxalite movement, he said.
Lecturer Hayavadana Upadyaya spoke about MF Hussain.
Prof Sathyanarayana Mallipatna also spoke. Senior folk scholar Vaman Nandavara presided over the function. DYFI District convener Muneer Katipalla and others were present.
