State govt committed to improve power scenario in state: Shobha

June 18, 2011

Mangalore, June 18: Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje has reiterated that the BJP led state government is wholly committed for improving the power scenario in Karnataka.

She was speaking after unveiling the plaque of proposed KEB Engineers' Association's zonal office building, which is to be set up at Kavoor area, at Lions Seva Kendra, Mallikatta here on Saturday.

Admitting that power is one amongst the most essential civic amenities for citizens she said it is the responsibility of the government for supplying continuous and quality power for all residential, commercial and farming needs. Shobha said the state government has embarked on the purchase of 1,300 MW power every day from different sources in order to meet the power demand.

Although there was no shortage of power, the state lacked appropriate receiving stations and feeder lines, with the power transmission and distribution system not being upgraded for nearly 25 years by successive Governments that ruled the state, she lamented.

Shobha said the government has envisaged setting up of 167 new receiving stations across the state with a proposal for installing 19 66KV capacity stations and 35 new lines in CHESCom limits.

The minister also said that the state has envisaged total power audit for maintaining accountability in power supply and distribution.

Mangaluru, May 3: Dakshina Kannada in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary today announced that there will be partial lockdown relaxations in the district from tomorrow (May 4) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The district falls under orange zone as per the classification done by the union government to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Mr Poojary said that shops can remain open for 12 hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.). However, this relaxation will not apply for malls, restaurants, beauty parlors, saloons and dental clinics.

Even though bars can remain open, they can only sell liquor. People will not be allowed to consume anything inside the bar.

In auto-rickshaws only one passenger will be allowed to travel apart from driver and in car two passengers will be allowed apart from driver.

The relaxations come with strict protocols, which the people need to follow, he said, adding that the relief had been provided to make life easier and not for people to come out unnecessarily.
