PM must be under purview of Lokpal: Justice Hegde

Mangalore, June 19: Stating that Prime Minister of the country must come under the purview of Lokpal, Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde on Sunday lashed out at the union government for its continued double standard in this issue.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a private programme, here, Mr Hegde, who is also a member of the Lokpal drafting committee, said that keeping PM out of Lokpal would not serve the purpose of having an effective investigation because there will not be any trails of the misconduct.


If Lokpal were to conduct investigation after Prime Minister demitted office, there are possibilities of evidences being “swept clean” before that and there could be arguments that it was “error of judgement” on the part of PM and it is not a case of corruption, he said.


“Prime Minister was never out of Lokpal. Constitution never contemplated Prime Minister to be out of it,” Mr Hegde said, adding that the Constitution never contemplated anybody in the country, except the President, out of the purview of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Mangaluru, Jun 21: A total of 51 private hospitals and medical colleges empanelled under the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust (SAST) have been allowed to treat Covid-19 patients in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district. Among them 30 are in Dakshina Kannada and 21 are in Udupi. Here is the full list:

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Film producer, philanthropist and entrepreneur V K Mohan committed suicide by hanging himself in a hotel in the city on Monday, police said.

Mohan, who hailed from Kundapur Taluk, Udupi District, was a famous film producer and hotelier.

According to police, Mohan arrived at the hotel on Sunday night and when he did not open the door of his room on Monday, hotel staffs, grew suspicious and peeped through the room window, found him hanging.

Udupi, Jan 7: The Malpe Beach Utsav will be held on February 1 and 2, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district G Jagadeesh said on Tuesday.

According to a release issued here, the festival, which was slated to be held between December 29-31, had been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.

The DC said various beach sports and cultural events have been organised to mark the Utsav.
