Entries invited for cultural competitions from July 18

Mangalore, June 20: As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Mangalore Airport, a five day cultural programme from July 18 will be held for the citizens of Mangalore, Udupi and Kasargod district, at Town Hall.

Revealing this at a press meet here on Monday, M K Sitaram Kulala, President, Cultural Fest Committee, said that this is the third programme the committee is holding involving competitors from primary school to University level. Drama, folk dance, patriotic song, lyric song and drawing competitions will be held in the first four days.

Five selected Tulu dramas will be played on every day at 6 pm. Scripts of the dramas should be based on historical and mythological topics. Winning team will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 followed by Rs. 5, 000 for the selected 5 dramas.

The programme will commence on July 18 at 9.30 am. District in charge minister, J Krishna Palemar will be inaugurating the fest. Deputy Speaker of State Assembly Yogish Bhat will preside over then function.

Member of Cultural Fest Committee, Subhoday Alva and Prabhakar were present at the meet.

Mangaluru, Mar 23: The magisterial enquiry into the police firing during the anti-CAA protest on December 19 in Mangaluru, has been postponed following the lockdown of Dakshina Kannada district, Udupi DC G Jagadeesh announced on Monday.

The inquiry by Udupi DC G Jagadeesh was scheduled on Monday. Already, City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha and others have deposed before the magistrate. The Deputy Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner were supposed to appear before the magistrate.

Following the December 19 violence and the death of  Nausheen and Jaleel due to alleged police firing, the state government had commissioned two probes-- one magisterial and the other, a CID inquiry.

 As per the government order, a report on the inquiry was to be submitted before March 23. On the request by the magistrate for more time since the documents and videos had to be examined, the government had asked him to submit the report by April 23.

Kasaragod, Jul 8: A 48-year-old man, who died on Tuesday, has tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

A native of nearby Mogral Puthur in Kasaragod district, Abdul Rahmn was running a business in Karnataka’s Hubli since long time.

He had recently returned to his hometown from Karnataka through Talapady border on the outskirts of Mangaluru.

Sources said, despite the man having acute fever, the authorities at the Talapady border not only took any action including informing the concerned, but allowed him to cross over the border in a vehicle.

He was rushed to Kasargod General Hospital soon after returning. Those who had accompanied him from Karnataka to Kerala are now under ouarantine.

Bengaluru, Jun 16: A woman employee at the Vikasa Soudha, next to Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat, was tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Hence the authorities sealed the Food Department offices, which was in the ground floor of the building.

Employees of Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha were shocked after learning that one of their colleagues tested positive for the dreaded killer coronavirus.
