GPs should give utmost priority to sanitation: Palemar

Mangalore, June 20: Sanitation should be a matter of utmost prominence for all Gram Panchayats, said District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Karnataka State Sanitation Award for 2009-10 ceremony organised under the joint auspices of State Water and Sanitary Mission, Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat at Nethravathi Auditorium in the city on Monday.

Mr Palemar, who also holds the environment portfolio, said that the state government is mulling to constitute a new 'environment award' like sanitation award in order to promote public awareness about the environment.

DK Zilla Panchayat has been awarded first place in state level for sanitation with the cash prize of Rs. 30 lakhs. Even though the award was announced in the month of March itself, certificates and cash prize was handed over in this ceremony.

Hosangadi taluk has won four awards at state level, division level, district level and taluk level respectively with a total prize amount of Rs 19 lakhs.

K T Shailaja Bhat, President, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Mangalore presided over the function. MLAs Yogish Bhat and B Ramanath Rai were present on the occasion.

Mangaluru, Jan 30: A day-long ‘satyagrah’ by women followed by formation of human chain marked the Martyrs’ Day, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, in Mangaluru.

The organisers were ‘We, the People of India’, whose sole intention was to safeguard constitution of India and raise voice against those to attack the constitution.

Amidst nationwide agitation by ‘We, the People of India’ against contentious CAA, NRC, the women of Manglauru have decided to hold satyagrah and form a human chain in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in the heart of the city on January 30.

The Satyagrah commenced at 10 a.m. At 4:30 p.m. a human chain will be formed. At 5.17p.m. when the father of the nation was gunned down 72 years ago during his evening prayer at Birla House by Godse, the demonstrators raised the slogan of unity to defeat the ideology of Godse.

Madikeri, Jan 17: Kannada and Telugu actor Rashmika Mandanna is likely to be further interrogated by Income Tax (I-T) officials on Friday.

The residence and properties by the family of Rashmika were raided by I-T officials on Thursday morning. Following summons issued by I-T officials, Rashmika rushed to her residence on Thursday night and gave details on investments and other financial transactions.

After the interrogation, the I-T officials left for Serenity hall, which is owned by Rashmika's father, at Virajpet at around 2.30 am and stayed back there.

The I-T officials have reportedly directed Rashmika and her father Madan Mandanna not to leave the house.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday inaugurated a mobile Covid-19 testing booth in Bengaluru.

These mobile booths will be used in all wards of Bengaluru to collect samples of those suspected to be infected.

According to information available on the website of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as of Thursday, 4:00 PM, 279 coronavirus cases have been reported from the state, with 80 cured/discharged/migrated and 12 deaths.

India's coronavirus tally is at 12,380 cases, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.
