World Bunts' Foundation Trust felicitates achievers

Mangalore, June 26: World Bunts' Foundation Trust felicitated Dr RN Shetty, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr DK Chowta, Writer and Dharnappa Shetty Poonjalkatte, a Yakshagana artist on Sunday during the annual general body meeting of the Trust held at Geetha SM Shetty auditorium of Bunts alias Nadavara Mathrsangha here.

Chartered Accountant student Rohith S Shetty was awarded with 'Late YR Shetty Endowment Award for best CA student' by HR Shetty, Chartered Accountant.

Presiding over the function, Dr Shantharam Shetty, Chairman of the Trust, said that the Trust since 15 years has collected Rs 2.5 crore and the interest generated from this fund has been used for scholarship for students of the community, healthcare and other purposes. He opined for the rich Bunts it was a meagre amount. He hoped in coming years with more contribution, the Trust would serve the disabled in the community.

He said that it was disheartening to know that a large number of community members are still in poverty. Social evils like dowry system are still haunting this community, he lamented.

Laying emphasis on the importance of educating each and every member of the community, Mr Shantharam said that every girl child must be educated to put an end to dowry practice.

After being felicitated, Dr DK Chowta said the Trust should also encourage the achievement of members of other communities too.

Dignitaries like Mr Vinay Hegde, Dr B Sanjeeva Rai, Mr Gopal B Shetty, Mr HR Shetty and others were present on the occasion.

Ms Malathi S Alva, Vice Chairman of the Trust welcomed the gathering while Mr K Jairaj B Rai proposed vote of thanks.

Bengaluru, Mar 5: Karnataka government on Thursday set aside Rs 400 crore to construct twin towers building with 25 floors here at Anand Rao Circle to facilitate all government departments to function at one place.

"To facilitate all the Government Departments to function in one building, a "Twin-Towers" building with 25 storeys will be constructed at Arland Rao Circle, Bengaluru, with an expenditure of Rs 400 crore," said Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa while presenting the budget in the state Assembly.

He further said that the road cross-over facility for pedestrians other than metro commuters will be provided through 24 metro stations.

"The construction of 56 km long Outer Ring Road - Airport Metro from Central Silk Board junction to Bengaluru International Airport via K R Puram and Hebbala at an estimated cost of Rs 14,500 crore will be commenced during the year 2020-21," he said.

Rs 1,000 crore budget each have been announced for the restoration of Bengaluru roads for two years, 276 Karnataka public school for their infrastructure development.

Tumkuru, Feb 26: A man was arrested from Azad Nagar area of Anantpur on Wednesday for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed and posting it on social media earlier this month, police said.

He was identified as Atul Kumar alias Madhugiri Modi, a resident of Madhugiri’s Hobali Honnapur village.

According to Superintendent of Police Vamshikrishna teams had been formed to arrest the accused following protests against his video and remarks against Prophet Mohammed in Tumkuru and Madhugiri,

Udupi/Mangaluru, Mar 1: A total of twenty leaplings were born in the hospitals of the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada (DK) districts on Saturday, February 29, district health department said on Sunday.

According to the district health department, sixteen babies were born in DK district while Udupi district saw four births. More boys than girls were born in DK (12–4) and it was the inverse in Udupi district (3–1).
