Dharmasthala, June 27: “I have not come here to seek anything for me. I have sought God's blessings for the welfare of the state. I have prayed the God to shower his blessings on the annadatha (farmers) and to make him self-dependent,” said BS Yeddyurappa here on Monday.

The chief minister spoke to the media after having the darshan of Lord Manjunatheshwara. He reached here by train from Bangalore early Monday morning along with several BJP MLAs and ministers.

As expected Mr Yeddyurappa stayed away from testifying before the presiding deity at Dharmasthala in his battle of attrition with his arch rival and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy and insisted, he retracted from the decision following suggestions from religious leaders including Veerendra Heggade and as per the instruction of party chief Nitin Gadkari.

“Karnataka has witnessed good rains over the last three years because of the blessings of God. The farmers in the state are also in a happy state of mind. The finances and the law and order situation is also very satisfactory, “ he said and declared that in the remaining two years he and his colleagues would work towards making Karnataka the number one state in the country.

As expected he did not take any questions from the media and shot back with a pre-deliberated sentence: “I have come here to seek God's blessings. I have decided not to speak anything related to politics at this holy place.”

The statement assumes significance in the wake of the impending visit of Kumaraswamy to the shrine and would make the former chief minister think twice before launching a personal attack against Yeddyurappa.

Yeddyurappa was accompanied by his cabinet colleagues Renukacharya, Umesh Katthi, Narayana Swamy, Bacche Gowda, V Somanna, Murugesh Nirani, C C Patil and Krishna J Palemar.

Mr Yeddyurappa later left for Kukke Subrahmanya. He will proceed to Bangalore after having the darshan of God there.

Kumaraswamy will offer prayers at Dharmasthala after the chief minister, as per the revised programme, in a short while from now.

More than 20 JD(S) MLAs, MLCs and their supporters are expected to accompnay Kumaraswamy.

Kumaraswamy will do the “satyada nivedane” (submission of truth), a ritual before the deity to say he stands by his allegations against Yeddyurappa.

While Yeddyurappa would stay in 'Sri Sann¬idhi,'a VVIP guest house, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy along with his followers would stay at Shanthi Vana, about two km away from Dharmasthala.

JD(S) sources said Kum¬araswamy plans to place before the deity on Monday, a copy of the letter that he had written to Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade on June 19 on the entire issue.

Earlier when asked about why he (Veerendra Heggade) did not suggest the chief minister or HDK against taking truth test (just like the way many seers suggested), Heggade said: “Being a Dharmadhikari, how can I turn down their request, especially when they want to submit before the lord.”

He said: “It would be better if there is 'dharma' in politics and not vice versa.” A large contingent of police has been deployed at the site. The media, both print and electronics, had gathered in strength here to report the unfolding drama on Monday.

Mangaluru, Mar 7: After coronavirus cases were confirmed in different parts of the country, there has been a sudden jump in demand for mask and safety gears like gloves and sanitizers in Mangaluru and Udupi.

With the increase in demand, medical shop owners said that they were finding it difficult to meet the demand.

In fact, there is a demand for bulk supply of masks and gloves. There was demand for masks when Covid-19 was confirmed in China two months ago. Bulk quantities of masks were purchased in order to supply them to Indian employees working in China. A few private firms had purchased masks from Mangaluru in the month of December.

Bengaluru, Jun 20: Former Chief Minister and Congress Legislative Party leader Siddaramaiah has slammed BJP leader and former Congress MP and MLA H Vishwanath for blaming him for not getting MLC ticket.

Siddaramaiah said, "H Vishwanath is neither a fool nor intelligent, that's why he's blaming me for not getting ticket. He is in BJP and I'm in congress how will I influence his ticket."

He also slammed Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, "Yediyurappa is toothless to speak to PM and asking for funds which need to be allotted to Karnataka including 5,049 crores, which 15th finance Commission suggested."

"No pro-people schemes must be stopped including Indira canteen, Yediyurappa thinks Indira canteen will bring good name to me that's why this government is trying to stop it," he added.

He was speaking after a protest organised at Mysuru against the hike in fuel prices.

Bengaluru, Jun 11: A love triangle took a violent turn when a final-year engineering student was assaulted by both her current and former lovers. She's now battling for her life in the ICU, police said.

For the 22-year-old woman, who lives in Sidedahalli, it was a case of fast-changing relationships. She broke up with a fellow student Babith, 21, a few months ago after having dated him for four years. Four months ago, she started seeing another collegemate named Rahul, 22, and everything seemed fine.

On June 7, she went to Rahul's house, ostensibly for his birthday party, after informing her parents. Babith got wind of it and barged into Rahul's house. The trio got into an argument, and Rahul abused and assaulted her.

The woman decided to leave him, and went with Babith to his house in Chikkabanavara, North Bengaluru. But things didn't end there. Babith picked an argument with her. Things became so bad that he attacked her with a helmet.

He then panicked and called her parents, asking them to take her home. When her parents arrived, they found only Babith, his mother and sister in the house. Babith's family directed them to a bedroom where she was lying motionless, with her face being badly wounded.

When her parents demanded to know what had happened, nobody responded. They took her to a hospital where her condition remains serious. A while later, Babith came to the hospital and gave her parents the key of her scooter. He told them what had happened and allegedly warned them against filing a police complaint.

Her mother, however, filed a complaint with the jurisdictional Soladevanahalli police. According to her, Babith had fought with her daughter at their house for not taking his phone calls six months ago.

Shashikumar N, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), said both the men had been arrested and that further investigations are underway.
