Mangalore, June 29: Agriculture is a vital instrument for development of the country. However farmers have been neglected post-independence due to which farmer suicide is at peak. If central government fails to provide support price for the areca fruit than all state politicians will fight against government under one roof without any discrimination of political parties, said Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP.

He was speaking during the launching ceremony of Pooga Singar Deodorant Beauty Soap, made of areca fruit at Campco building here on Wednesday.

Mr. Nalin said that by inventing the soap through areca, people will come to understand the importance of such a fruit which results in high demand leading to better price.

He also blamed the government for granting fertile agricultural lands to Special Economic Zone, which is not in favour of betterment of the city.

Badanaje Shankar Bhat, inventor of the soap said that earlier areca was just limited to chewing purpose. Now due to lot of research work, a number of products can be produced with it like lipstick, tea powder, soft drinks, ink etc. and with alternate use, areca will get good market.

Areca will have a good market in the future, he added.

Shailaja K T Bhat, President, Zilla Panchayat, Mangalore, said that this type of invention will help attract youth towards agriculture. She also urged the Areca Research and Development team to continue their research on areca fruit.

Dr. D C Chowta, Former Botany Professor, Mangalore University, Konkodi Padmanabha Bhat, President, Campco Company and Shrinivas Acharya were present on the dias.
