BJP yet to accept Shetty's resignation

Mangalore, June 30: President of Dakshina Kannada unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party K. Padmanabha Kottari said on Wednesday that the party had not accepted the resignation of the former minister B. Nagaraja Shetty to the primary membership of the party.

He told The Hindu that Mr. Shetty had submitted the resignation letter to him five days ago.

He had quit as chairman of Karnataka Coastal Development Authority.

He had cited family reasons for quitting the party and the authority.

Mr. Kottari said that he had brought this to the notice of the party leaders in the State unit which was yet to take a decision. However, there is speculation in party circles that Mr. Shetty had quit because of differences with Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

The differences were relating to recent queries from Mr. Yeddyurappa to Mr. Shetty over transportation of iron ore through New Mangalore Port when H.D. Kumaraswamy was the Chief Minister. Mr. Shetty was the Minister for Fisheries and Muzarai in the Janata Dal (S)-BJP coalition government and Mr. Yeddyurappa was the Deputy Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister called on Mr. Shetty at his residence here on Monday and has invited him to Bangalore to discuss the issue, the sources said.

Health of migrants should not be jeopardized as they return to their places: HD Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru, May 4: Former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday said that the health of the migrants who have been allowed to move, should not be jeopardized and appropriate tests must be conducted.

"The task was to send the workers to their places. However, their health should not be jeopardized. This decision made for their benefit should not be a travesty for them. There will also be physical interference on the buses and appropriate tests must be done," said Kumaraswamy.

"The lockdown, which was implemented without any prerequisites, is now loosened without warning. The state government, which has allowed migrant workers to move to the city, has mobilized large numbers of people. By this, the government is playing with their health," he added.

He continued saying that the government should not lose out on an unscientific move that resulted in the loss of thousands of crores of rupees from a custodial lockdown.

"Workers and villages must be sober. The government must take all necessary precautions in this regard," he added.

Karnataka High Court to go online amid covid crisis

Bengaluru, Jul 1: Faced with increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the State Capital, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Justice A S Okha has decided the Court to function online.

Registrar General Rajendra Badamikar, in the notice issued here on Wednesday, based on order of the Chief Justice, stated that the emergency cases will be conducted through video conference until the next order.

The order also specifies that only the principal seat (Bengaluru) will be conducting proceedings online. High Court benches at Dharwad and Kalaburagi will continue to function as usual.

Mangaluru: Massive protest against CAA, NPR, NRC held at Kudroli

Mangaluru, Feb 25: The coastal city of Mangaluru today witnessed yet another major agitation against infamous CAA, NPR and NRC with large number of people gathering at Kudroli’s Tipu Sultan Garden to register their protest against union government’s racist policies.

Addressing the gathering activist B R Bhaskar Prasad said, he knows the RSS inside out as he was associated with it for a prolonged period.

He said the ultimate aim of RSS is to establish a casteist society in India with the micro-minority community of Brahmins having complete control over all other major communities.

Lambasting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for constantly harassing people of India through back to back contentious legislations, he said that the duo poised to destroy the country.
