Udupi, July 3: A lepoard created panic in Karkala on Saturday morning. The big cat was tranquillized after a six-hour struggle. A forest official and a policeman were injured in the operation to nab the it.
The feline was first noticed by cashew factory workers at Kadulhole Village in Marne GP, 16 km from Karkala town. The animal was already wounded when it came in from the forests. As a crowd gathered, the leopard sought shelter in the house of Anand Shetty. Ajekar SI Thimmaraju and forest officials arrived with some nets to trap the animal. The enraged animal attacked them, leaving them injured.
A team of experts from the forest department in Mangalore had to be called.
They managed to tranquillize the leopard, and it finally fell into the net. The animal was taken to Pilikula Nisargadhama.
