Mangalore, July 7: A labourer at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited was killed during work on Thursday, when a crane boom fell on him.
Police identified the victim as Johnson Santhosh Rosario (21), son of Albert Rosario. Hailing from Gurpur, he was residing at Kalawaru, near Jokatte.
The tragedy occurred at 10:20 am at third unit of the MRPL. The body has been shifted to AJ Hospital for postmortem.
A case of unnatural death has been registered at Suratkal Police station.
Mangaluru, Feb 2: A video of a woman rescuing a dog from a well in Mangaluru has gone viral on social media. The dog fell inside the well accidentally and the woman rushed to the spot to rescue it. The two minute seven second video has been shared on Twitter by a user, Mauna, and has ever since been viewed over 15,000 times.
The woman climbed down the well as other people attached a rope to her body during the rescue mission. Another rope was then thrown to her and she tied it around the dog after which it was pulled outside. The woman, thereafter, climbed outside the well with much difficulty.
"Bless the lady who saved the Dog," the user captioned the post.

Mangaluru, Jun 15: A 69-year-old man was murdered by his two sons at Muggaguthu in Karaya village under the limits of Uppinangady police station in Dakshina Kannada district.
According to Police, accused Monappa Poojary (34) and Naveen (28) assaulted Dharnappa Poojary with sickle and wooden logs on Sunday night, leading to his on-the-spot death.
A family discord led to the murder, police said, adding that a case has been registered at Uppinangady police station and investigation was in progress.
Bengaluru, Aug 2: A total of 5,532 new cases of COVID-19 and 84 deaths were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, the state's health department informed on Sunday.
With this, the Karnataka's COVID-19 tally now stands at 1,34,819 positive cases, including 74,590 active cases and 57,725 discharges.
So far, 2,496 deaths have been reported from the state.
India's COVID-19 count on Sunday crossed the 17 lakh-mark with 54,736 positive cases and 853 deaths reported in the country.
"The total COVID-19 cases stand at 17,50,724 including 5,67,730 active cases, 11,45,630 cured/discharged/migrated and 37,364 deaths," said the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.
