Vroom…Vroom… Vintage bikers thunder on Mangalore road

July 10, 2011
Mangalore, July 10: On the evening of Sunday, Shanthi Nilaya ground at Balmatta found itself packed with over 35 enthusiastic bikers who displayed their beloved set of wheels to celebrate 9th International Jawa Yezdi Day (Second Sunday of every July). Thanks to Mangalore Jawa & Yezdi Motorcycle Club! Old motorcycles found new appreciations..!

The bikers, from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kundapur, and Chikmaglur districts, after a round of display of Yezdi power through the main thoroughfares of the city with roaring thunders showcased the very important part of the classic and vintage bikes.

Keshava, a mechanic from Marnamikatte, started his career with Jawas and graduated to the rest of the models. He says that they are sturdy and reliable once you know how they operate and function. Many bikers use their old models once in a while to keep its heart in shape, as parts are not available any more.

Arun Shiri, a member of the club has managed to restore his 1971 model's original glory including the paint job. “Some parts you don't get and some are costly, if you plan to procure from the old stock held by Ideal Jawa in Mysore,” Shiri said.

Riyadh, July 6: The government of Saudi Arabia has announced health protocols to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus in the 2020 Hajj season, banning gatherings and meetings between pilgrims.

Saudi Arabia decided in June to limit the number of domestic pilgrims attending the Hajj to around 1,000 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, after barring pilgrims abroad from the rite for the first year in modern times.

Touching the Kaaba, the holiest site in Islam, will be banned during the Hajj this year, and a social distancing space of a meter and a half between each pilgrim during the rituals including mass prayers and while in the Kaaba circling area will be imposed, a statement by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) elaborated.

Also, access to holy Hajj sites at Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat will be limited to those with Hajj permits starting Sunday July 19 till Aug. 2 2020, and wearing masks all the time will be mandatory for both pilgrims and organisers.

Bengaluru, Jan 22: JD(S) president HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday termed the surrender of the accused in the alleged planting of an explosive at Mangalore Airport as another act of a drama and said that the incident should serve as an Eye-opener for the Prime minister Narendra Modi over the prevailing unemployment problem in the country.

Addressing a press conference, the Janta Dal (Secular) leader said that the surrendered man, who had allegedly planted explosive at the airport, was an employed youth and PM needs to address the prevailing unemployment problem in the country.

The former chief minister said that the accused have higher education qualifications and belonged to the Hindu community, disapproving that only people belonging to the Muslim community resort to violence.
