Mangalore, July 12: Music lovers of the city rocked to the tunes of the band Motherjane as the band performed for the very first time at City Centre mall.

Artistaloud.com, in collaboration with The Lifestyle Group organised the rock show on Sunday. The mall was agog with a huge and excited crowd waiting eagerly for the performance.

The band started their performance with the song 'Soul Corporations' from their own album and it set the right mood among the audience for the evening. Strong vocals and tight performance by the band kept the evening rolling. Other songs they played included Questions, Mindstreet, Disillusioned, Maya, Chasing the sun, Broken, Fields of sound and Jihad.

The band consists of Suraj Mani (vocals), John Thomas (Drums And Percussion), Clyde Rozario (Bass Guitar), Deepu Sasidharan (Guitar) and Santosh Chandran (Guitar). Suraj Mani and team gave a great performance for Mangaloreans to remember. It was not just Suraj's powerful singing that wowed the audience, but his constant interaction with the audience provided them with total entertainment. Not to forget the rest of the band members who were equally responsible for putting up a wonderful show. While the lead and drums set the songs rolling, guitars gave the right effect. Youngsters around kept demanding for songs to be played but due to time restrictions they had to stop.

The lead vocalist Suraj says: "Yes it was our first gig in Mangalore and we loved the crowd there. Would love to do a 'proper' outdoor Motherjane gig and experience the city's vibe. Looking forward to that.”

He added: “I don't know too much about the people of Mangalore other than we liked them and the response we got there. In many ways that's how people all over the world are. Love your audience and they will love you right back, no matter what the art form is.”

Motherjane was formed in 1996 by drummer John Thomas and bassist Clyde Rozario to “fill in” for another band which had backed out from a college festival at St. Albert's College, Kochi. They have released a total of two albums and two singles. Motherjane released their debut album Insane Biography in 2002 under Kan & Will Records. Maktub was released in 2008, and marked a change in Motherjane's musical style. Influence of Carnatic Music was prominently seen in guitar, vocals and percussion, and native instruments like the Chenda were used. Singles of the band include Tribes of Babel (2010) and Jihad (2010).
