CBI winds up investigation into former Mangalore Qazi's death

Mangalore, July 11: The CBI team has completed its investigation into into the mysterious death of former Mangalore Qazi CM Abdullah Musliyar Chembarika and submitted the report to the investigation team chief Nandakumar Nayar.

However, no specific reason for the death has been mentioned in the report despite investigating the case with several perspectives, it is learnt.

With this development, the death of Mangalore Qazi remained unsolved.

The team had also interrogated several suspects and relatives from Kasargod, Mangalore and Madikeri regarding the case. It also had conducted narco-analysis test on suspects. Experts from New Delhi had gathered information from the scenes.

The investigation of mysterious death was handed over to CBI last September following demand from various quarters that the crime branch investigation would not reveal the exact reasons behind the death of the former Qazi, whose body was found on a sea shore near his home.

Bengaluru, Feb 19: Congress MLA UT Khader on Wednesday slammed the Central government over the enactment of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and said it violates the Constitution.

"The new citizenship amendment bill is unconstitutional. The citizenship cannot be given on cast and creed basis. Because of these things we are fighting against it," he said while speaking to media in Bengaluru.

Opposition along with several non-BJP state governments, including Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala, Punjab and Rajasthan have refused to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed NRC in their respective states.

The CAA grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

Bengaluru, Jul 31: A total of 5,483 new COVID-19 cases and 84 deaths were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, the state's health department informed on Friday.

Karnataka now has a total of 1,24,115 coronavirus cases, including 72,005 active cases and 49,788 discharges.
So far, 2,134 deaths have been reported from the state.

Meanwhile, India reported the highest single-day spike of 55,079 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, crossing the 16-lakh mark, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Friday.

Mangaluru, Mar 5: Chairman of Karnataka Christian Development Committee (CDC) Joylus DSouza on Thursday welcomed the allocation of a Rs 200-crore grant in the state budget for the development of the Christian community.

In his message to the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa released to the media, DSouza said, "Christians in Karnataka welcome with gratitude the announcement of Rs 200-crore allocation for the community in the budget for fiscal 2020-21."

In 2011-12 fiscal also, Yediyurappa as Chief Minister had allocated a grant of Rs 50 crore for the community for the first time in the history of the state, he said.

The grant of Rs 200 crore this year shows Yediyurappas concern for the Christians.

I congratulate and offer my sincere gratitude on behalf of the Christian community of the state to Yediyurappa, DSouza said.
