AHINDA opposes religious text in primary and high schools

Mangalore, July 15: Strongly opposing the Government's decision of having religious text imparted as a subject in the primary and higher primary schools, DK district unit of AHINDA said that teaching of all religious texts to students of primary and high schools across Karnataka should be immediately banned.

Addressing a press meet here on Thursday, AHINDA DK district unit Working President Lolaksha said that the BJP led State Government's move threatens the secular fabric of the nation and can bear serious impact on the society in future.

Urging Visveshwar Hegde Kageri, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education to forthwith ban teaching of all religious texts to young students, he reminded that the State has no religion and is bound by the Constitution of India to remain secular at all times. “The Government is a body which brings in 'rule of law' and not 'rule of ideology,” he added.

Pointing out that children in schools will not have the maturity of making decision and government has no right to impose any thought on the young minds, he said that AHINDA will have no objection if religious texts of various religions are kept as optional subject at degree and post graduate level.

“In the degree and post graduate level, the students will be matured enough to take decisions. Let these religious learning be an option and not a compulsion even at this level,” he said.

Mr Lolaksha lamented that instedat of taking action against institutions run by any religion, which have imposed religious text as a subject on students, the Government which is the custodian of democracy and secular fabric of the nation, is resorting to taking such a step.

AHINDA President Vasudev Boloor, Treasurer Renny D'Souza among others were present.

Mangaluru/Mysuru, Mar 2:Unseasonal rain that lashed several parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Mysuru districts on Monday brought big relief from scorching heat experienced since last one week.

According to official sources here, the Port city received rain for more than two hours since 0500 hrs. Mangaluru, Thokkottu, Ullal, Kavoor, Bondel, Bejai and other areas surrounding Mangaluru experienced rainfall.

Power supply was disrupted following rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted 'generally cloudy sky' for Mangaluru on Monday.

Mangaluru, July 29: Justifying the transfer of Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, district in-charge minister Kota Shrinivas Poojari has accused Mangaluru MLA U T Khader of politicizing the issue. 

The IAS officer was transferred by the Karnataka government on July 28, a day after a saffron activist issued a death threat against her on social media after she warned of legal action against the miscreants who attack cattle traders.

Condemning the development, Mr Khader had tweeted that the state government has punished the deputy commissioner instead of punishing the culprit, who issued death threat.

Responding to Mr Khader’s tweet, Mr Poojari said that the transfer of the officer was on administrative ground. “It is unfortunate that Khader politicized a transfer carried out by the government on administrative ground. This is not Khader’s time to protect any accused,” tweeted Mr Poojari. 

It is worth mentioning here that Mr Khader was the district in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada before Mr Poojari taking over the position. 

Meanwhile, police has arrested a person in connection with the death threat against the IAS officer.

Mangaluru, Apr 6: Taking note of the communally hateful messages, news and pictures in the wake of coronavirus, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police (SP) Laxmi Prasad on Monday issued strict warning to people spreading such messages and news on local social media platforms.

The SP also confirmed that four cases under his jurisdiction have been registered for sending, forwarding messages with communal hate in the wake of coronavirus on Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

He added the police department will not take any such messages, news, and images lightly which can potentially hurt the sentiments of the people of any community. He also added that those found guilty will be prosecuted under strict law and their gadgets, mobiles will be seized by the department.
