Mangalore, July 22: BJP is directly involved in the leakage of the Lokayukta report, alleged KPCC Secretary Ivan D'Souza in a press meet on Thursday.

The BJP government knew that they will lose power once the Lokayukta report is published, hence they have played a game of leaking the report beforehand so that the report loses its significance, he said.

Lokayukta has also agreed that former MP V Dananjay Kumar has presseurised him with regard to the report. BJP government has played a game, to retain their power and immediate action should be taken against those involved in the leakage scam. A criminal case should be filed against them, said Ivan.

MCC is going to implement the 24X7 water supply, similar to the Hubli pilot project. With this, the water supply project will be given to private companies. This will increase the water bill three times more than the present and cause a burden on the common man. It will also give an opportunity for corruption, said D'Souza.

He further added that if MCC continues with the privatisation of water supply, then a massive protest will be held by the Congress party.

Youth Congress Zonal Returning Officer Zudson Bakka informed that 16,500 persons have enrolled as Youth Congress members in the Mangalore parliamentary constituency. The scrutiny is going on at present and details of the members have been published in.

The Lok Sabha Returning Officer (LRO) will be touring the Lok Sabha constituency and spending a day in every Assembly constituency.

The members may approach him to check their names on the list. The LRO will also accept corrections to the list if a member has been placed in the wrong booth or assembly or has been missed from the list due to mandatory fields not been filled in his/her membership form. Corrections will be accepted only for the duration of the scrutiny.

All members seeking corrections to the voter list must produce the original membership receipt and documentary proof. The scrutiny schedule for Mangalore will be held daily from 9 am at different Block Congress Offices. On July 22, it will be held at Ullal, July 23 at Moodbidri, July 24 at Bantwal, July 25 at Belthangady, July 26 at Vitla, Puttur and July 27 at Sullia Block Cong Office.

Bengaluru, Jun 28: Karnataka Minister for Medical Education Dr K Sudhakar faced criticism by netizens after he shared a TikTok video sent by his daughter and wife, who are currently undergoing treatment in a COVID-19 facility.

TikTok is a Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based internet technology company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming.

Dr Sudhakar’s father, his wife and daughter who tested positive for Covid-19 has been admitted to a designated facility and in order to make his birthday memorable, his daughter sent him greetings through TikTok video.

When the minister shared the TikTok video, people pointed out that the minister should know better and that he should urge his family to boycott the Chinese video-sharing platform and lead by example.

Many were miffed that a BJP leader put up a TikTok video at a time when tensions are running high between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

Udupi, Jun 24: Nearly four years after he was arrested in the murder case of NRI entrepreneur Bhaskar Shetty, the District Sessions court has granted conditional interim bail to Niranjan Bhat, one of the three prime accused in the case.

The development comes two days after the death of Niranjan’s father Srinivas Bhat(65). Though Srinivas and his driver Raghavendra were also arrested in the case on the accusation of destruction of evidence, they were released within a month.

Through his lawyer Niranjan had appealed to the court seeking bail to perform his father’s post-death rituals.

After hearing the arguments, the court granted conditional interim bail till July 7 on furnishing a bond of Rs 5 lakh. The judge directed the accused to report to the court on or before July 7 to be taken into judicial custody.

Bhaskar Shetty, who owned a chain of supermarkets in Saudi Arabia, went missing from his house in Udupi on 28 July 2016. His mother Gulabi Shetty lodged a missing person complaint on July 29. The police arrested his wife Rajeshwari, her son Navaneeth and astrologer Niranjan Bhat on the charge of murdering Bhaskar Shetty and destroying the evidence, in Udupi on August 7, 2016. Rajeshwari is already out on bail. Navneet is still in prison.
