GP meeting forces students out of class room

Mangalore, July 22: Have you ever seen High School students sacrificing their class rooms for the smooth conduct of Gram Panchyat meetings?

The 8th and 9th standard students of the Government High School in Inoli of Pavoor village, on Thursday, had to make room for the meeting by having classes outside. The students sat on the ground for many hours listening to the teachers.

Although, Government had sanctioned a school for this village, the building has a shortage of classrooms. Therefore a few classes are being conducted in the Mini Ambedkar Bhavan. During Gram Panchayat meetings 8th and 9th standard classes are either dismissed or conducted on the open ground.

“As a new office is being constructed near Gram Panchayat, there is no proper room to conduct the meeting. Inevitably we had to hold the meeting here”, says Abdul Khader, President of the Inoli Gram Panchayat.

He has also promised to arrange for proper facilities for the students in the days to come.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: Karnataka government has said that as of now six cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the state, including one person who died.

"Till date six COVID-19 cases have been reported in the state including one death. The 5 Coronavirus positive cases are in isolation at the designated hospital in Bengaluru," the Karnataka government said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Health Department of Karnataka on Sunday said that all the family members and other contacts of the 76-year-old man who died of coronavirus in Kalaburagi are being monitored closely.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed that India's tally in the number of positive cases for coronavirus has reached 107 on Sunday.

Mangaluru, Jan 30: A dentist has been arrested by the Dakshina Kannada district police on charge of sexually harassing a woman patient during treatment at a hospital in Beltangady taluk.

The accused has been identified as Dr Sudhakar. He is facing charges under section 354, 354A(1)(I) of IPC.

The incident occurred yesterday when a local woman had been to the government hospital at Kasaba village in Beltangady for dental treatment.

According to the woman, Dr Sudhakar deliberately touched her body inappropriately and sexually harassed during treatment.

The shocked woman went to the jurisdictional Beltangady police station and lodged a complaint. The doctor was arrested and produced before the court.

Bengaluru, Jun 3: The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences at Hubballi has successfully treated a COVID-19 patient through plasma therapy, state medical education minister K Sudhakar said today.

"Karnataka achieves yet another milestone in battle against #COVID19. KIMS Hubli has successfully treated a Covid19 patient through Plasma Therapy & is the first institute in the state to accomplish this. Congrats to KIMS doctors & staff for this feat!" Mr Sudhakar tweeted.

In plasma therapy treatment, plasma cells from a COVID-19 patient, who has recovered from the disease, is transfused to a coronavirus patient who is in critical condition to treat him.

Plasma therapy was effectively used in the past during Ebola and the Spanish flu pandemic.
