Mangalore, July 22: The annual “BCF Educational Scholarship Meet-Mangalore 2011” of Bearys Cultural Forum, a well-known community organization for Bearys of Coastal Karnataka under the auspices of Dubai Indian Islamic Centre, UAE will be held on Sunday July 24 at Loyola Hall, St Aloysius Pre-University College Campus here.

Revealing this at a press meet here on Friday, July 22, M E Moolur, Chairman of BCF Scholarship Committee, said that BCF believes in empowering the community by promoting education.

He said a sum of Rs 12 lakh would be distributed among 250 students from PUC to post graduation.

He said BCF which has been engaged in community developmental works since five years has conducted cultural programmes, financial assistance to the people irrespective their castes and religion on humanitarian ground, and felicitation for the achievers recognising their social service.

He said that the meet would be inaugurated by the State Home and Transport Minister R Ashok, while District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar would be the chief guest. Dr B K Yusuf, President of BCF will be presiding over the function.

Shaikuna Al-Haj P M Ibrahim Musliyar, Udupi Qazi will offer Du'a. Guests of honour include MLA U T Khader, Dr M Mohan Alva, B M Farookh, Chairman of KMDC N B Aboobaker, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, Principal of St Aloysius Pre-University College Prof John D'Silva, Abdul Salam Puthige and B M Mumthaz Ali.

Zafarulla Khan, Chief Advisor of BCF, Hasan Darvesh, Chairman of Mega Star, Thumbay Mohideen, Raveesh Gowda, Fortune Grand Group of Hotels, Khasim Ahmed H K of Hidayah Foundation, M K Beary, President of DKSC, UAE and Zakariya B Jokatte will also participate in this meet, said Mr Moolur.

Kalaburagi, May 15: Former Karnataka Minister Dr Sharanprakash Patil and 22 others, including several local Congress leaders, have been booked for violating lockdown guidelines by conducting a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13.

The FIR was registered on Thursday against 23 persons, including the former MLA and 21 local Congress leaders, under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Congress leader Patil and his followers had conducted a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13, following which sectoral magistrate Muneer Ahmed lodged a complaint.

This comes as the country of under lockdown and the Centre and states have issued strict social distancing and other norms to be followed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Mangaluru, May 11: Hundreds of migrant labourers today gathered at a service bus stand in Mangaluru to return to Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.

They were working in different parts of Dakshina Kannada and remained stranded without a job after the announcement of lockdown.

Labourers said that they have not registered with Seva Sindhu portal to avail pass for travelling outside the state.

Though all the people who gathered wore a mask, the physical distancing norm was not followed.

Already three Shramik trains from Mangaluru had left for Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar with nearly 3,500 stranded labourers in the last two days.

The gathered labourers are anticipating that they would be allowed to travel to their destinations in the Shramik trains that will leave in the evening from Mangaluru.

The doctors and paramedical staff who have arrived the spot are checking the health of the labourers before allowing them to travel to the railway station.

The cost of a ticket to Uttar Pradesh is Rs 1,040 per person (which includes bus fare from service bus stand to railway station, food and water bottle).
