MSEZ forced to stop construction of wall

Mangalore, July 23: The Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) stopped construction work of a huge wall on 37 acres of land, belonging to 12 families including 11 Kudubi community members, at Kudubipadau following objections from Permude gram panchayat on Friday.

The gram panchayat served notice directing MSEZ officials to stop the construction work in the land on Thursday. The government had notified 2,035 acres land for the Phase II of MSEZ in May 2007, but later the denotification was made only for 1,998 acres as Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board ( KIADB) had already handed over 37 acres land in Kudubipadavu to MSEZ.

While some families on the land had already taken compensation, 12 families refused and continued their fight to get their land back.

The contractors of MSEZ were continuing the work on construction of a wall on 37 acres land on Friday too. However, later in the afternoon work was stopped following objections from the gram panchayat, Krishi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samiti (KBSS) and M P Nalin Kumar Kateel.

KBSS also filed a complaint to the deputy commissioner and taluk panchayat executive officer against MSEZ for carrying out construction work without obtaining permission from Permude gram panchayat. Without the mandatory written permissions from the concerned Panchayat, all the construction works being carried out over the past two years by the MSEZL and its constituent units are to be viewed as illegal and in violation of the Karnataka Panchayat Raj Act, KBSS members alleged in the complain.

Hariprasad, Ahmed given tickets to strengthen the party: DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru, Jun 19: Congress leaders BK Hariprasad and Naseer Ahmed filed their nominations as party candidates for Legislative Council elections in Bengaluru and KPCC chief DK Shivakumar said that the two leaders have been given ticket to strengthen the party with their guidance.

"The Legislative Council means the Upper House and the Elders House. We have unanimously agreed to select and send these two senior leaders to discuss the party organization and various issues of the state in Legislative Council. There were plenty of aspirants to enter the Upper House. But it is decided to elect these two leaders and they will contest the election," Shivakumar said.

"We need seniority to guide us... That's the reason we are selecting these leaders... The high command has given these senior leaders the opportunity to discuss with all our leaders about strengthening the party," he added.

The elections are scheduled to be held on June 29.

20 special flights from Saudi to India announced; 3 and a half to Bengaluru; Sorry Mangaluru

Newsroom, Jun 2: The government of India has announced operation of another 20 special flights to repatriate stranded NRIs from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under Vande Bharat Mission.

All the repatriation flights will take off from three major airports – Dammam, Riyadh and Jeddah – between June 10 and June 16. Most of the flights will land in Kerala.

The first flight from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka in the new schedule will be operated on June 11. It will take off from Jeddah with passengers from both Kerala and Karnataka. After landing in Kozhikode it will continue its journey to Bengaluru.

The next three flights – Dammam to Bengaluru on June 12, Jeddah to Bengaluru on June 13 and Riyadh to Bengaluru on June 15 – will directly fly to Karnataka.

Even though thousands of Mangalureans are stranded in Saudi Arabian cities due to lockdown, the government has not announced any flight to Mangaluru International Airport.

Karnataka orders sanction of leave for teachers, students having symptoms of COVID-19

Bengaluru, Mar 2: The Karnataka Department of Public Instruction has directed the School heads across the State to grant leave to students and staff suffering from fever, cold, cough and other respiratory infections.

As precautionary measure following the COVID-19 (known as coronavirus) outbreak at the global level, the department issued a circular in this regard here on Monday.

If any student, teacher or staff is suffering from respiratory infections, they should be granted leave. They should be allowed to come back to school only after confirming from the doctor that they are cured, the circular added.
