Three fishermen go missing since July 23

Mangalore, July 26: Three fishermen, who had ventured into the sea for fishing, have been missing since July 23.

The missing are Francis Frank (23), Manohar Puthran (41), residents of Bengre and Vinci (40), resident of Deralakatte.

The trio had ventured into sea for fishing at around 1 pm on July 23 with a boat named “Jai Paduranga” owned by Laxman of Bengre. At around 6 pm, they called the owner over mobile phone had informed that boat engine was collapsed.

Lavina Frank, sister of Francis Frank said that her brother had called her to inform that they were in trouble in the mid-sea. Later Lavina informed this to the owner and concerned associations of fishermen.

Panambur Police, who had registered case, said that it would be difficult for the personnel of Coastal Security Force and Coast Guard to find the missing trio as they have been missing since three days.

However, the missing boat was found at Manjeshwara, it is learnt.

Udupi, July 17: An Indian expatriate from coastal Karnataka who was working in Kuwait passed away in a hospital in the oil-rich country reportedly due to covid-19.

Sheikh Mohammed Syed (54) was a native of Kharvi in Kundapura taluk of Udupi district. He is survived by his mother, wife and three daughters. 

An ex athletic champion from Bhandarkars' Arts & Science College, he was a well-known Volleyball and Kabaddi player in Kundapur.  He was associated with many sports associations in Udupi. 

An employee of KRH firm, he was hospitalized in Kuwait three weeks ago due to ill health. He was tested positive for covid-19.

He breathed his last yesterday without responding to any treatment. Final rites were held in Kuwait. 

Prior to migrating to Kuwait, he had worked in United Arab Emirates for several years. A sports enthusiast, he had trained many athletes in Udupi.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Film producer, philanthropist and entrepreneur V K Mohan committed suicide by hanging himself in a hotel in the city on Monday, police said.

Mohan, who hailed from Kundapur Taluk, Udupi District, was a famous film producer and hotelier.

According to police, Mohan arrived at the hotel on Sunday night and when he did not open the door of his room on Monday, hotel staffs, grew suspicious and peeped through the room window, found him hanging.

Mangaluru, Apr 15: For the convenience of the public during the lockdown period, the Department of Posts has been providing essential services to the public at its various branch offices which are functioning from 1000 hrs to 1400 hrs.

Medicines and other essential items can be sent via parcel from any town to any place in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Arrangements are also being made to extend this facility to nearby districts. In case of sending medicines and other essentials to other states from Mangaluru, the transportation has to be done via Bengaluru and can be expedited if a request for urgency is made, says a press release from the Senior Superintendent of Posts of Mangaluru Division on Wednesday.
