Three fishermen go missing since July 23

Mangalore, July 26: Three fishermen, who had ventured into the sea for fishing, have been missing since July 23.

The missing are Francis Frank (23), Manohar Puthran (41), residents of Bengre and Vinci (40), resident of Deralakatte.

The trio had ventured into sea for fishing at around 1 pm on July 23 with a boat named “Jai Paduranga” owned by Laxman of Bengre. At around 6 pm, they called the owner over mobile phone had informed that boat engine was collapsed.

Lavina Frank, sister of Francis Frank said that her brother had called her to inform that they were in trouble in the mid-sea. Later Lavina informed this to the owner and concerned associations of fishermen.

Panambur Police, who had registered case, said that it would be difficult for the personnel of Coastal Security Force and Coast Guard to find the missing trio as they have been missing since three days.

However, the missing boat was found at Manjeshwara, it is learnt.

Surathkal, Jan 4: The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) have signed agreementsfor joint research and development of technology for application in space, a statement said here on Friday.

As part of the agreement, which was signed by P Venkatakrishnan, Director of ISRO CBPO Division and Prof Umamaheswar Rao, Director, NITK, ISRO will establish the Regional Academic Center for Space (RACS) at NITK.

Mangaluru, Mar 1: A youth lost his life in a lift crash at a wedding hall at Kallapu near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today. 

The deceased has been identified as Hamzah (30), a resident near Thumbay, who was part of the catering team hired for the marriage ceremony. 

The tragedy occurred at around 2 p.m. when Hamzah was getting ready to bring utensils and other things by lift from the third floor of the hall. All of a sudden, the lift’s ropes came loose and Hamzah lost his balance and got trapped inside.

He was pulled out and rushed to a hospital in Deralakatte, but he breathed his last on the way. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Kalaburagi, Mar 7: Congress and JDS MLAs are eagerly waiting to join BJP, said former minister and chairman of Nijasharana Ambigara Choudaiah Abhivradhi Nigama, Baburao Chinchansur, here on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference here, Baburao said if the BJP top brass gives a green signal to include MLAs of other parties, both Congress and JDS would be almost empty. Many leaders, including D K Shivakumar and G Parameshwara, won’t support Siddaramaiah and the former CM will have to find his own way in the coming days, he predicted. He said Congress will not be coming to power in Karnataka for the next 20 years, he said.

Chinchansur thanked Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa for providing Rs 50 crore for Nijasharana Ambigara Choudaiah Abhivrudhi Nigama in the budget. He also said that a delegation will be taken to New Delhi under the leadership of the CM, after the budget session, to pressure the Union government to include Koli community in ST category.
