Mangalore, July 27: 'Karnataka Darshana', which can be termed as the masterpiece of Prof B M Ichlangod, was released at Press Club here on Wednesday.

The 62 page book, though small in size, poeticises the 2,000 odd years of glorious history of Karnataka, right from the Mauryan rulers in second century BC up to the unification of the state in the early 1970s.

Speaking after releasing the unique work of coastal based writer, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President, Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Parishat, said that the author has strived to introduce the history of Kannada land to all Kannada readers. “Even college going students can easily read and understand this book,” he opined.

Mr Kalkura pointed out that the writer has exhibited his hold over Kannada literature, by telling the historical stories in the traditional form of 'ragale', which he opined, too hard to master.

Expressing gratitude to all who supported and encouraged him to accomplish the work, Prof Ichalngod said that 'Karnataka Darshana' is a collection of 41-poems on history of Karnataka that chronicles its important milestone enroute.

“Many experts, who went through 'Karnataka Darshana', have opined that this book is unique in style,” he said.

Prof Ichlangod, however, expressed concern that the youth is gradually losing interest in literature, especially poetry.

Harish Rai, President, Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Union, Jeevan, President, Kannada Sangha, Mangalore and P Mohandas Shetty, President, Moodbidre Kannada Sangha were present on the occasion.

Published by Kannada Sangha, Moodbidri, the face value of the book is Rs 50.
