Mangalore, July 28: The fire erupted in an old building, which houses five different godowns, near Centre Market in the city in the wee hours of Thursday has brought under control after several hours of effort.
However, goods worth several lakhs of rupees have been gutted in the incident.
The walls and roofs of the building, which had godowns of Liberty, wholesale dealers in stationery, cosmetics and general items, Panchalingeshwara Tyres, were collapsed due to intensity of fire.
Officials suspected that the fire was caused due to short circuit.
Luckily no causality or major injury has been reported in the tragedy.
Fire service vehicles and Bunder Police team rushed to the spot. “The fire was getting out of control and therefore the department dispatched five fire service vehicles,” said an official. The fire was extinguished after four hours of struggle.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
