KCCI gets first woman President

Mangalore, July 28: Latha R Kini, a state award winning woman entrepreneur, has been elected as the new President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Mangalore. lata

She will be the 49th President of KCCI and the first woman president to head the Chamber in its seven decades of existence.

During the tenure of G G Mohandas Prabhu, outgoing president of KCCI, Mrs Kini was the Vice-President.

She was elected unanimously during the 70th Annual General Meeting held on Thursday.

A gold medal winner from Mangalore University, she has also served as managing partner of Pilot Paints and Bell Paints at Baikampady here.

She is also the recipient of the Karnataka State Award (1992-93) in the Best Women Entrepreneur category, in recognition to her yeomen contribution to Industry and Commerce.

Her husband RD Kini was the President of KCCI in the year 2003-04.

Kasaragod, May 27: In a tragic incident, two persons, who were brothers, died of asphyxiation while trying to rescue a calf that fell in their well at Bandhiyod near here on Wednesday.

Police sources said the elder brother Narayanan (50) entered into the well first to save the calf that fell in the well early in the morning.

His brother Sankaran (40) also followed suit after he noticed his brother fainting deep down the well. However, he also fainted inside the well.

Hubballi, Apr 16: Police have seized a vehicle carrying nine members of a family from Dharwad for misusing the travel pass issued by the district administration in Narendra Village and sent them for Quarantine.

Deputy SP Ravi Nayak and his team stopped the vehicle at Narendra village, in the outskirts of the city and found out that they were from Uppina Betagiri village returning from a wedding function using government pass issued for medical reasons.

The police seized the vehicle and sent them to KIMS hospital for a medical check-up. Their swab samples have been collected and sent for testing. The police have asked them to go for a compulsory home quarantine for 14 days.

Udupi, Jul 20: Five COVID Day Care Centres have been opened here on Monday with combined 870 bed for asymptomatic Covid-19 patients.

The Centres are set up at Karkala (1), Udupi (3) and Kundapura (1). Presently more than 100 patients are being treated in these Centres.

These Centres have been opened in the wake of high incidences of Covid-19 cases in the district. They are set up for asymptomatic patients who do not wish to be treated at home.
