Mangalore, July 29: LPG consumers struggling with status verification of their respective connections need to wait another 24 hours. The department of food and civil supplies in Dakshina Kannada has set up teams that will undertake physical verification in cases where the online status of the connection reads "the electrical RR number for LPG connection is under verification as more than one LPG connection is linked with this RR number," from Friday onwards.

The department, since Friday last up to Wednesday, has received 3,412 applications from those seeking updation of their LPG connection status. During the same period, 7,847 consumers have applied online through the department's website www.ahara.kar.nic.in. The department in turn has completed verification of 120 online applications and 100 received manually at the eight special counters set up outside its office in the DC office premises.

Delay on part of the department in starting local inspection in the above cases, Sharanabasappa, deputy director of the department said here on Thursday, was due to their preoccupation with accepting applications and documents from people whose LPG connections had been deemed faulty for various reasons. Teams of food inspectors have been now constituted and they will start the process of local inspection from Friday, the official stated.

The district has 3,25,977 LPG connections of which 1,21,500 connections have been suspended as consumers did not submit documents for verification when sought. Out of the remaining 2,04,477 processed, 1,90,160 LPG connections match with RR number. The number of LPGs matched with single RR is 1,36,341 and those with no power or Bhagya Jyothi is 1,009. RRs with more than one LPG connection to be verified are 44,435.

The department has suspended 3,667 LPG connections with no RR, 10,080 for RR mismatch, and 8,375 for possessing commercial RR against domestic RR numbers. All oil companies have been strictly instructed not to suspend LPG connections in cases where LPG connection has been marked for verification. On the question of returning deposit in cases where connections are found to be illegal, he said it is between oil companies and the consumer.
