Mangalore, July 31: “Initiative of Talent Research Foundation gave me self-confidence and a sense of social responsibility. I now teach students who had to curtail their education due to personal problems”, said Ashraf Bengre.

Bushra, a 22 year old girl, said that she had left school for four years before TRF insisted her to face SSLC exams. “The TRF encouraged me to continue education and helped to complete PUC too. Now, I am pursuing my graduation along with 20 other drop-outs. I am grateful to TRF for guiding and encouraging us”, she said.

Like Ashraf and Bushra there were several beneficiaries of TRF's “Marali Baa Shaalege” (return to school) campaign, who exhibited a new spirit and enthusiasm at “Inspire-2011”- Drop-out Students & Teachers Meet organised by TRF at Jamiyyathul Falah Auditorium here on Sunday.

Mohammed Rafiq Master, Advisor, TRF, outlined the campaign of TRF and said that the organisation has 69 centres across Karnataka and over 700 drop-out students have written exams this year.

TRF is working hard to educate the students who have had to quit school due to various reasons. A widow and a mother of three, is among the students who wrote SSLC exams this year under our program, he informed.

The program was inaugurated by Ashraf Bengre and Mohammed Yusuf, beneficiaries of the program by releasing TRF project guide for the year 2011-2012.

Dr. Mohammed Kaup, General Secretary, Beary's Cultural Forum, congratulated the efforts of TRF and advised the students to pursue higher education.

“SSLC or PUC is not enough if you wish to excel in this competitive world”, he observed. He also noted that age is no bar to get educated.

“I have had a student who passed his 12th at the age of 55, and Bachelors Degree at 60” he recollected. We should be thirsty to know more, he said motivating the students to work harder in their lives.

He appreciated the teachers, who endured great troubles in educating drop-out students.

227 students have passed their SSLC and PUC under this campaign this academic year.

Abdul Rauf Putthige, Chairman, TRF, Kasim Ahmed H K, Founder-President, Hidayah Foundation, K K Sahul Hameed, General Secretary, Jamiyyathul Falah Udupi & Dakshina Kannada districts were present among the others.

Bengaluru, Jun 5: The Karnataka government has asked all its departments and authorities to avoid during all official transactions the nomenclature "Dalit" for members belonging to the Scheduled Castes.

"All the departments and authorities of government of Karnataka are requested that (use of name Dalit) for all official transactions, matters, dealings, certificates, among others," the official circular said.

The Constitutional term Scheduled Caste in English and its appropriate translation in other national languages should alone be used for denoting the persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes notified in the presidential orders issued under Article 341 of the Constitution, the circular said.

The circular issued on May 20 notes instructions issued by the Central government in 2018, with reference to the order of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior Bench.

"That the Central government/state government and its functionaries would refrain from using the nomenclature "Dalit" for the members belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes as the same does not find mentioned in the Constitution or any statute," the order had said.

Pointing out that the Central government had earlier issued instructions that the words "Harijan" and "Girijan" should not be used, the circular said accordingly the Karnataka government also had issued a Government Order in 2010.

Kannur, Jan 23: A member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been arrested for attempting to create unrest in Kerala by hurling crude bombs at RSS office and police picket. The miscreants had reportedly planned to pass the blame on others.

The bomb attack took place of January 16 in Kerala’s Kannur. The accused Prabesh, an RSS hardliner, was arrested from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

According to the Kerala police Prabesh hurled steel bombs towards the police picket in front of Kathirur Manoj Smrithi Kendram, an RSS office.

"He threw bombs during the wee hours of January 16 morning. Following the arrest he has confessed that his aim was RSS office. Kannur, being politically sensitive region, any attack on political party offices will be regarded as an act by the opponent," Kathirur SI Nijeesh said.

"We had a police picket in the region for a few months now. We are assuming he wanted to create unrest in the area by removing the police from the spot. We could contain the situation because of the CCTV visuals. He was identified immediately after the incident. Following the attack he went to Coimbatore and was hiding there. Our team nabbed him from Coimbatore," he said.

The police have also said that the accused Prabesh had many criminal cases pending against him including those under Explosive Substances Act, 1883. He was nabbed by a team lead by Kathirur SI Nijeesh, CPO Rohith and Vijeesh.

The RSS office in the region is named after Kathirur Manoj a senior karyakarta (worker) who was allegedly killed by the CPI(M) activists in 2014. Kathirur Manoj was the prime accused in the attempt to murder of senior CPI(M) leader P Jayarajan in 1999.

Bengaluru, May 24: Karnataka Tourism Minister CT Ravi said that coronavirus lockdown has severely marred the tourism industry in the state and the government will revive it in a phased manner.

"It would be beneficial if hotels are opened keeping in mind few restrictions. At present, the tourism industry has fallen flat making it very difficult to promote tourism in the state," Ravi said.

"Our department has planned to promote tourism in a phased manner. In the first phase, we would focus on native tourism; then in the second phase, we will promote inter-district travel; in the third phase, we will put weight behind inter-state tourism and in the fourth phase, we would be promoting international travel and tourism," he added.

Karnataka's COVID-19 count surges to 1,958 with 216 new cases of the virus reported in the last 24 hours, said the Health Department in a bulletin on Saturday.

Out of the total number of cases, 1,307 patients are active cases and 608 patients have been discharged. The total number of fatalities due to COVID-19 in the state has risen to 42.
