Mangalore, August 4: Thousands of devotees thronged Shiv Temples across Dakshina Kannada early on Thursday morning to offer special rituals as part of Naga Panchami.

The devotees worshipped Rudra Avtaar Shiva and gave alms and clothes to snake charmers.

In Shree Ananthapadmanabha Temple of Kudupu, devotees worshipped the serpent god from 4:30 am and offered different rituals according to their financial and social status.

"Snakes are worshipped on Naga Panchami. Even before the Vedic times, the tradition of snake worshipping has been in practice," said a priest of the temple.

People offer milk to snakes on this day.

Panchami of the Shukla Paksha (fifth day after the new moon) of Shravana month in Hindu calendar is known as the Naga Panchami day. This is the first festival to be observed as per the Hindu calendar.

According to Hindu beliefs, the outcry of the sister who prays with intense yearning on the day of Naga Panchmi for the progress of her brother reaches the feet of god. Maximum chanting will be done to acquire peace on this day. Devotees stay calm and try to overcome their personality defects.

Hindu mythology is full of stories and fables about snakes. Lord Vishnu also reclines on Sheshnag while sleeping in the sea. People living in the coastal region of Karnataka believe that serpents are the visible incarnations of the angels. The coastal belt and the Western Ghats have been a traditional habitat of serpents since times unknown.

Bengaluru, Feb 23: Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers DV Sadananda Gowda on Sunday said that several "anti-national organisations" were misusing the platform of anti-CAA protests.

"We have taken serious note of it and have started an investigation. Several anti-national organisations are misusing the platform of anti-CAA protests and many people are trying to take political advantage of this situation," he told the media on Sunday.

Gowda said that the government is "very serious" about the issue. "We are already working towards this. Both the state and Centre are together investigating into this," he said and added, "We will ensure that we cut this and will not allow this to grow. We will investigate the organisers of the event as well."

"If you are inviting such people (alleged anti-national elements), it means that you either know about it or that you are indirectly encouraging such things. In such situations, the organisers too will be acted upon," he stressed.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday held a meeting with the Ministers-in-charge of eight zones to take stock of the COVID-19 situation and its management in Bengaluru.

Yediyurappa suggested that it should be ensured that both COVID-19 and other patients get timely treatment. He advised home quarantine for asymptomatic patients and hospitals and COVID Care Centers would provide treatment for those who are severely symptomatic.

He said, Rapid Antigen Testing should be carried out for those who died in the hospital, for immediate delivery of the corpse for funeral arrangements. He also said to conduct Rapid Antigen Test for those who have died at home and take action for the funeral of the dead.

The chief minister said, lockdown is not a solution to COVID-19 control, he made it clear that the government has no plans to continue with the lockdown in Bengaluru.

"To fill the shortage of doctors, the process of filling vacancies is ongoing," he said.

"Volunteers are identified and ambulances are assigned to each ward.  Strict action should be taken if private hospitals do not provide beds to patients," the Chief Minister said.

The chief minister said volunteers and nodal officers would be appointed to provide information on the enrollment and availability of beds to COVID-19 infected persons in private hospitals.

"Welfare pavilions and lodges have been identified in each ward, suggesting the use of quarters to quarantine those who do not have separate rooms," the Chief Minister said.

He said, allocate bed within two hours of the result of the test and the ambulance must take action to take the person to the hospital. The Chief Minister suggested that the system be decentralised, zoned, and monitored.
