Miraculous escape for driver as Maruti Omni catches fire

Mangalore, August 5: A 30 year old driver had a miraculous escape as a Maruti Omni car he was driving suddenly caught fire on Friday morning in the city.


The car, bearing registration number KA-01 M-1398, had just moved a few metres after undergoing repairs in a garage near SCS hospital, when the incident occurred.


Driver Suresh said that he immediately got out of the car upon spotting the fire, and within a few minutes, the vehicle engulfed in flames.


Though the exact cause for the fire in not known, Alvin, the owner of the Omni opined that the tragedy might have been caused by a short circuit. An LPG cylinder was also there in the Omni, which has dual-fuel system.


The impact of the accident was such that the Maruti Omni car reduced to an empty body.


A case has been registered at Kadri Police station.

Ujire, May 7: A child was killed and four people were injured after a car they were travelling in rammed a stationary truck near Ujire, on Tuesday night.

The deceased is nine-month-old Madhavi, the daughter of Pramod, a resident of Panyalu Ujire.

Pramod, his wife Ashwini and relatives Mamatha and Swati, have been grievously injured in the incident, and are being treated in a private hospital.

The incident took place around 11pm. According to police, the victims had gone to a relative’s house at Vamadapadavu. On reaching Ujire, Pramod wanted to stop the car beside the road, but failed to notice the stationary truck.

The car was completely mangled as a result of the impact. A case has been registered at the Dharmasthala police station in this regard.

Madikeri, Jan 4: Two girls were seriously injured after a wild elephant attacked them on their way back to home near Injilagere here, Forest officials said on Saturday.

The officials said that Nityashree of class four, along with her younger sister Yuvashree of class two, were on their way back home from Government Primary School. The students are the daughters of Mani, resident of School estate line house in Puliyeri village.

Mangaluru, Jan 24: The Srushti Kala Vidyalaya will be conferring it's 'Srushti Kalabhushan Award' to ace Yakshagana Bhagvatha Patla Sathish Shetty.

The award ceremony will be held at RV Dental College and Hospital in JP Nagar, Bengaluru on February 2, as part of the decennial celebrations of the Vidyalaya.

Chayapathi Kanchibail, founder of the Vidyalaya, said, "The award is being given to Shetty for his services to promote the art of Yakshagana and for his welfare work through the Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation."
