Mangalore, August 13: “I believe in politics of love and trust, though the present political scenario is full of hatred, acrimony and enmity. And, This is my 'mantra' for success,” these were the words of D V Sadananda Gowda, the new Chief Minister of Karnataka, who was offered an exciting reception at Sangh Niketan, the local headquarters of RSS, by activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday.

Addressing a large number of enthusiastic BJP activists, Mr Gowda said “I began a state-wide tour from this Sangh Niketan, where I was inspired and learnt hard work and discipline.”

“Just like you people, I too haven't dreamt of becoming the Chief Minister. When I met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on courtesy call recently, he said that he too became politician and then Prime Minister accidentally just like me,” he said and added that his political career was accompanied with challenges.

Admiring the 'architectures of Dakshina Kannada' U Srinivas Mallya and T M A Pai, he said that he would also follow their footsteps in terms of development.

He said he would provide clean, efficient, and corruption-and-nepotism-free administration during his tenure.

Mangalore M P Nalin Kumar Kateel said that D V Sadananda Gowda has been a guiding inspiration for the young politicians. “When I was struggling to raise any questions in Lok Sabha, it was Mr Gowda who stood by me and encouraged me to speak Kannada in Lok Sabha,” he said.

“Mr Gowda was the first Chief Minister from Dakshina Kannada after the patrician of twin districts, and he will be in office for full time,” he said with full-throated enthusiasm.

Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar requested the Chief Minister to sanction the grant to construct the houses for 1,064 people belonging to Koraga community in the district. He also urged the CM to release an amount of Rs 1,000 crore for the overall development of this coastal district.

BJP Presidents of eight Vidhansabha Constituencies offered a grand flower garland to the CM.

Mangalore South MLA N Yogesh Bhat, Mayor Praveen Anchan, Pratap Simha Nayak, ZP President Shailaja Bhat, Shrikar Prabhu, and Sadananda Gowda's wife Datty Gowda were among those present.

Mangaluru, June 13:  The Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru City Police, which is digging up old cases involving underworld gangster Ravi Pujari, has now launched a fresh probe into the murder of human rights lawyer Naushad Kashimji.

Kashimji was gunned down on April 9, 2009 at the basement of his apartment in Falnir in Mangaluru. Ravi Pujari had allegedly ordered the hit.

As part of investigation, a team from Benglauru CCB has come to Mangaluru. CCB sleuths, who obtained Pujari’s police custody in connection with this case, are tying up the loose ends pertaining to the murder of Kashimji who was representing D-Company hitman Abdul Rashid Hassan Malbari aka Malbari.

Pujari was said to be unhappy over Kashimji representing Malbari. Pujari had also allegedly issued life threats, directing him to desist from doing so.

Kashimji had reportedly received more than 10 international threat calls from March 30 to April 9 (the day he was murdered). According to a senior police officer, the advocate had not informed the police or his then senior Purushottam Poojary about receiving the threat calls. “This came to light when police went through his call records later,” the officer explained.

“CCB team is primarily focusing on Pujari’s role in the advocate’s sensational murder,” a senior CCB officer handling the investigating said.

“We have also lined up other cases in which Pujari is allegedly involved, but had filed the chargesheet against him in absentia as he was then a fugitive,” the officer added. The team is now picking up threads of Pujari’s involvement cases in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts.

Pujari, currently in police custody in Bengaluru, is accused in more than 30 cases reported in Mangaluru from 2007 to 2018. Majority of the cases against Pujari pertain to extortion and extending death threats, one relating to murder, three to shootings/ abduction and one where he supplied money to his henchmen in prison. Police have filed ‘C’ report in 17 out of 28 threat call cases and ‘B’ report in one case. Rest are in different stages of trial.

Bengaluru, Apr 14: Bracing for post-lockdown hard times, the Karnataka government on Monday decided to auction about 12,000 BDA sites and regularise unauthorised constructions across the state in a bid to shore up its already-thin finances.

"Some 12,000 corner sites (developed by Bangalore Development Authority, or BDA) are lying idle in Bengaluru. We hope to net about Rs 15,000 crore from the auction of the sites," chief minister BS Yediyurappa said after chairing a meeting with senior ministers and officials to discuss ways to raise funds.

"The Covid-19 pandemic has thrown Karnataka into a deep financial crisis. There's a need for such measures," the chief minister said in defence of the decisions.

The sites – mainly of 40x60ft and 50x80ft dimensions – are in nine layouts. Also, the state government will auction corner and vacant sites in layouts formed by development authorities in other major cities of Karnataka.

Industry experts said that in a tepid market, it wasn’t easy to find buyers for the sites, each of which costs about Rs 1 crore. The CM said, “Since it’s an open auction, I’m confident of a good price since corner sites are always in demand. If we don’t get the expected price, then we will stop the process.”

The meeting decided to fast-track disposal of the cases related to regularisation of unauthorised constructions pending before courts. “If courts decide these cases, then thousands of people will be relieved, besides helping the government in mobilising resources to take up development works,” the CM said.

The government hopes to get about Rs 4,000 crore from the layout-regularisation move.
The government decided to amend the law to allow hundreds of private and cooperative housing societies to allot residential plots.
