Borris Braggs Prabhu is President of MU students' association

Mangalore, August 14: Borris Braggs Prabhu of Rosario Management College has been elected president of Mangalore University All College Students Association (MUACSA) for 2011-12 here on Saturday.

Surendra of University College, Mangalore, was elected working president, while Shobhith Shetty of Gokarnanatha College, Kudroli became the general secretary.

Karavali Group of Institutions Chairman Ganesh Rao inaugurating the function advised students to become an independent entity sans political affiliations and play a constructive role in nation building.

Five students were elected vice-presidents, three as secretaries, two as joint secretaries, four as organising secretaries, Prajwal B of Adarsh College as treasurer, three as cultural secretaries, four as sports secretaries, Sagar of Sree Devi College as convener, and two as co-conveners.


Advocate Dinakar Shetty was the election officer, a MUACSA release states.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: The heath condition of Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa who had tested positive for Covid-19 continues to be stable and he is currently asymptomatic, hospital source said.

Congress leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah who too has tested positive for Covid-19, is suffering from high fever and is currently receiving treatment. He has been admitted at the Manipal hospital in Bengaluru.

"I request all those who had come in contact with me to check out for symptoms and to quarantine themselves," Siddaramaiah had said in a tweet.

Yediyurappa, is in the same hospital for treatment along with his daughter B Y Padmavati, who too tested positive for the virus on Monday.

Yediyurappa on Sunday night (2 August) had tweeted that, "I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self quarantine.”

Kasaragod, Jul 19: An accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Prevention) Act (POCSO) killed self minutes before being shifted to the jail on Sunday.

Police sources said the criminal, Shaiju, was admitted to Covid-19 observation ward after he was arrested and remanded to judicial custody after he was charged with a case under POCSO for unnatural sex with a neighbour boy recently.

The accused had made a similar attempt last month but was implicated in a case after his treatment.

Mangaluru, Mar 30: Indira Canteens and Kadiri Manjunatha Temple here have started distributing food packets to the poor, stranded labours, destitute and needy in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown.

''We have prepared over 2,000 food packets in the morning. The same number will be prepared in the afternoon and night for distribution," said Prabhakar Shetty from Indira canteen at Urwastore in Mangaluru on Monday.

"The MCC teams come and collect food for distribution among the poor, beggars and destitute," he added.
