Mangalore, August 16: Four people met watery graves in two separate tragedies reported from Suratkal and Dharmasthala on the 65th Independence Day of India.
An unemployed youth was drowned after he was dragged into the sea by strong waves at Mallamaru beach near Suratkal.
The deceased was identified Nithin (25), resident of Chitrapur, who was a diploma graduate and in search of a job.
According to a complaint registered at Suratkal police station, Nithin along with his five friends went to Mallamaru beach to have bath. Nithin stepped into the sea along with his friends but a huge wave pulled him into the sea.
In another incident three people drowned while a group of devotees having holy bath in river Netravati.
The body of Cheluvaraju (35) from Mysore was recovered. However, the bodies of two unidentified devotees, who disappeared while having a holy dip, yet to be recovered.
