Rare and unique surgery saves woman's life

Mangalore, August 20: A team of doctors from City Hospital have granted a new lease of life to a female patient by performing a very rare, unique and very complicated laparoscopic surgery, first of its kind in the medical history of the district by the chief of the Dept of Minimal Access Surgery and Surgical Gastroenterology Dr. Roshan Shetty.

A city based 60 year old woman, an asthma patient with breathing problems used to develop pain, fatigue, and chest discomfort soon after consumption of food. She consulted Dr. Roshan Shetty and complained about her medical complications. Dr. Shetty after thorough clinical evaluation and detailed radiological investigation found that she had congenital defective diaphragm, her stomach instead of being inside abdomen it has migrated into the chest clubbing the esophagus and stomach, which developed into a Para esophageal hernia and incidentally also found to have a Lumbar hernia adjacent to the kidney, which warranted emergency surgery to save the life of the patient.

Instantly she was admitted to the City Hospital. Dr. Shetty formed a team of experts, Dr. Bhaskar Shetty (General Surgeon), Dr. Muralidhar (Physician), and Dr. Kishan Shetty (Anaesthesiologist) and performed a very complicated laparoscopic surgery lasting five and a half hour and her stomach was separated and restored to the normal position along with the closure of the defects by means of Laparoscopic Para-esophageal hernioplasty with Lumbar hernioplasty.

The patient responded to the surgical treatment and recuperated very speedily and was discharged after five days on August 19, and presently she is leading a very normal life.

Bengaluru, May 1: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on the occasion of International Labour Day has appealed to migrant workers in the state to stay back and co-operate with it in resuming economic activities once the Central government issues further directions.

"It is my sincere request to all the migrant workers to stay back in the state and co-operate with us to resume the economic activities once we receive directions from Union Government," Yediyurappa said in a release issued by the CMO.

"COVID-19 situation in India is much better than other countries because of people's cooperation.

We intend to resume economic activities soon. The government has already held a meeting with representatives of associations of commerce and industry in this regard. The government has also appealed to the employers to protect the interest of their workers and pay salaries," he added.

The ongoing nationwide lockdown, imposed to contain the coronavirus spread, is scheduled to end on May 3.

New Delhi, Mar 29: Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan after his discussions with Saudi Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, on global oil market developments said that Saudi Arabia has assured India of uninterrupted supply of LPG.

"Had a video conference with HRH Prince Abdulaziz, Saudi Minister of Energy and Mr Amin Nasser, President and CEO @Saudi_Aramco. We discussed about the global oil market developments and on uninterrupted LPG supplies from Saudi Arabia to India," Pradhan tweeted.
"HRH Prince Abdulaziz assured of LPG supplies in the coming days to support our domestic requirement," Pradhan added.
While there has been a slump in fuel demand owing to the nationwide lockdown, cooking gas demand has reportedly surged in the country.
The Prime Minister had on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown to stem the spread of COVID-19 which has left thousands dead around the world.

Bengaluru, Feb 17: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday assured that the Centre is committed to stand by its promise of providing Rs 18,600 crore Bengaluru suburban Rail project.

Addressing a press conference after a post-budget interactive session with the representatives of the various trade bodies, industry leaders and others here, she said that the union cabinet has already given its clearance for the long-pending project.

Informing that the central government will have 20 per cent of its capital share in the project followed by another 20 per cent share from the state government, she said "beside this, the union government will stand for a sovereign guarantee for the rest of the 60 percent share, which can be raised through loans from external agencies".
