DC assures basic facilities to Naxal-hit areas

Ujire, August 27: Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Chennappa Gowda said that drinking water, electricity, road, school and other basic facilities in Naxal linfested areas will be provided on priority basis.

Speaking at a public contact programme held at Navur in Belthangady on Friday, he said those forest dwellers who are living inside Kudremukh National Park will not be asked to evict forcibly. If the dwellers come out voluntarily, then they will be given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh.

When the beneficiaries said that solar lamps distributed by the government are not in good condition, the DC promised to repair it within 20 days.

“Minor hydro electric units will be started in those places where there is natural water resources to supply electricity. Measures will be taken to supply drinking water. By setting up handloom units, the problem of unemployment will be solved to some extent,” he said.

The villagers brought the issue of deplorable condition of roads, delay in distribution of title deeds and loss of crops due to wild elephant menace to the notice of the officials. The Deputy Commissioner said that he will visit any one of the Naxal infested villages within a month.

Superintendent of Police Laburam, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr K N Vijayaprakash, Assistant Commissioner Dr K Harish Kumar were present.

Bengaluru, Mar 21: Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths have nabbed a three-member Irani gang, including a woman and recovered from them 1 kg 33 gram stolen gold chains worth about Rs 40 lakh.

City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao told newsmen here on Saturday that the arrested were identified as Abujar, Abdul Hussain and Ms. Jenia, all hailed from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

He said that the culprits, who had been arrested on similar theft cases, were out on bail and continued their criminal activities. They were involved in more than 23 cases.

Bengaluru, Jun 5: A COVID-19 patient, who was admitted to Victoria hospital, has recovered from the disease after he was administered convalescent plasma therapy.

He is the second patient in the state who has recovered from COVID-19 after the therapy.

"I am happy to inform the second plasma therapy patient has recovered and shifted out of ICU. This middle-aged patient was admitted in Victoria hospital ICU with severe COVID-19 illness and was also diabetic with poor sugar control," Dr Vishal Rao, HCG Hospital Bengaluru said.

"The patient received convalescent plasma on May 27, since then there was steady improvement in patient's condition and was taken off high flow nasal oxygen on June 2, 2020, and is at present on a minimal oxygen, shifted toward yesterday. With the rapid recovery we hope to discharge the patient soon," he said.

Speaking further, Rao said: "This is a significant improvement and reassuring. We hope to see him recover completely and will closely monitor the condition going forward to send the patient from ward to home."

In Karnataka, 4,320 coronavirus cases have been reported including 1,610 cured/discharged/migrated and 57 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Mangaluru, Jun 23: An elderly person, who was undergoing treatment for covid-19 in Mangaluru, breathed his last on today. 

The victim, identified by number P-6282, was a 70-year-old man. He had returned from Bengaluru on June 7. 

He was suffering asthma and pneumonia. He had Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) symptoms and was hence admitted to the designated covid-19 hospital in Mangaluru on June 12. 

His condition continued to worsen and today he breathed his last, sources said.

With this the total number the deaths of covid-19 patients in Dakshina Kannada district mounted to 9.
