Narayana Gatty passes away at 70

Mangalore, August 29: Narayana Gatty, a resident of Kapikkad in Ullal, died here at his residence after a brief illness. He was 70.

A retired non-teaching staff of the Karnataka Fisheries College Mangalore, he was also the Gurkar of the Ullal unit of the Gatty community.

He was suffering from diabetes and died of cardiac arrest on Saturday night, according to family sources.

He is survived by wife, a son, Taranath Kapikkad, chief reporter of Janashri in Mangalore and a daughter. The final rites took place at 11am on Sunday.

Physical distancing norms flouted as crowd gathers for temple fair in Karnataka

Ramanagara, May 15: Flouting all social distancing norms, people gathered in large numbers for a village temple fair in Karnataka's Ramanagara district.

On Thursday, people in large numbers came out on a road to participate in the fair. Attendees took permission for gathering from Panchayat Development Officer NC Kalmatt.

According to a Tehsildar official, Kalmatt was suspended by Ramanagara Deputy Commissioner for granting permission for the gathering.

People have been advised to wear mask in public space and maintain social distancing to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, 45 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 1,032 on Friday, according to the state Health Department.

Mangaluru | 3-year-old child crushed to death under speeding car

Mangaluru, Jun 29: A three year old child lost its life after being hit by a car at Nadupadavu village under the limits of Konaje police station on the outskirts of the city today.

The victim has been identified as Faheema (3), daughter of Farooq, a resident of Nadupadavu.

The mishap occurred when the girl ran towards the road when the car was entering a main road from an inner road.

Dec 19 Mangaluru police firing: Udupi DC seeks more time to submit report

Mangaluru, June 23: G Jagadeesha, deputy commissioner of Udupi, who is heading the magisterial inquiry into the December 19 police firing case in Mangaluru, has sought more time from the government to submit the report.

Two innocent passersby - Nauseen Kudroli (49) and Abdul Jaleel Bengre (23) - were killed when policemen opened fire randomly after caning the alleged anti-CAA protesters in Mangaluru.

The chief minister B S Yediyurappa led Karnataka state government had commissioned two inquires, one magisterial and the other CID, into the incident.

“Due to the covid-19 pandemic the probe couldn’t be complete on time. I have asked the government for more time. Two more hearings are to be conducted,” said Mr Jagadeesha, who was expected to submit the report before the government on Tuesday.
