Mangalore, September 1: Banna Ganapa, a unique exhibition of paintings on Ganesha by 12 artists was inaugurated Thursday morning Ganesh S. Rao, Founder Chairman of Karavali Group of Colleges.

Rohan R. Monteiro, Managing Director, Property Infratech India Pvt. Ltd., Mangalore was the chief guest on the occasion.

The exhibition is hosted by Art Insight at its art gallery situated at Kadri Service Station, Shivabagh, Mangalore to commemorate its successful two years. IndianOil Corporation Mangalore Divisional Office is the sponsor and co-organizer of the event.

The exhibition, which coincides with Ganesh Chathurthi and IndianOil Day, will be open for public viewing for seven days (till 7th Sept.) at the gallery from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

It features about 30 paintings by 12 professional artists of the coastal region. The participating artists are: Anil Devadiga, Dinesh Holla, Harish Kodialbail, Harish Marne, Jayavanth, Jeevan A.S., Kandan G., Mohan Kumar B.P., Rajendra Kedige, Reshma Shetty, Syed Asif Ali and Vishwas M.

Addressing the assembled gathering, Ganesh Rao observed that every artist's talent is unique and it is futile to compare one artist with another. “Ganesha being a universal god has innumerable forms and each of participating artists has depicted his own personal vision of Lord Ganesh,” he said, adding, “While creative license gives the artist the freedom to depict this god in any form (aakara), one should also take care to see that there is no distortion (vikaara) which may hurt people's sentiments.”

He appreciated the initiative taken by Art Insight to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi festival in this innovative way. “Even organizing this kind of exhibition dedicated to Lord Ganesh is a way of offering pooja to him,” he said, “This exhibition is an example of what can be achieved if we all work together.”

He particularly lauded the efforts of IndianOil Corporation in promoting art and said more such events are needed to motivate talented youngsters to take to art. He offered his institution's campus and resources to the artist community for the purpose of promoting art in the future.

In his address the chief guest Rohan Monteiro said he was very happy to be a part of the event and he wished that this exhibition which is being organized in the name of Lord Ganesha will bring peace and property to the land and its people.

The inauguration ceremony commenced with a statement of condolence and silent tribute to veteran artist Panambur Purushotham Karanth who passed away last evening.

The dignitaries individually felicitated each of the participating artists by presenting a rose. Karunakar MH and Rajendra Kedige of Art Insight and the premises owner Gurupreeth Alva of Kadri Service Station were present on the occasion.

Bengaluru, Jan 23: Expressing shock over the blast which left him and his supporters injured yesterday, Shantinagar MLA NA Haris today said that the incident cannot be brushed aside as a firecracker blast and appealed to the state government to inquire into the incident.

Recovering from the injuries sustained on his leg, Haris was discharged from St Philomena's Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Interacting with mediapersons outside his residence in Shantinagar, Haris said, “It wasn’t a cracker but a ball-like object that was hurled at me. Since my childhood, I have been seeing crackers and the object that was thrown at me was certainly not a cracker. It had splinters and hard objects.”

He said, “I have been representing the constituency for over 12-years and had no rivalry with anyone. Barring political ideology during elections, all the leaders in our constituency have been cooperative with each other. Yet, we do not know what the intention was or who was behind the incident.”

Revealing that home minister Basavaraj Bommai had called him to enquire about his condition at the hospital Haris said, “I have also briefed the home minister and explained to him what exactly happened. I have full faith in the police and will cooperate with the police during the investigation.” Haris said that doctors have advised him three to four-days of rest.

I want to know from them wat was the need for this. Has this helped the ordinary Mangalore Muslims in anyway. I would not have asked abt this if the program was conducted in your house. But here it is done in the name of Muslims. We need to stop being intellectually dishonest

We respect ur decision sir.

But there are a lot of questions about it on people's mind.

We need to be updated about ur next plan of action.

Are u planning to approach the court for gaining the permission from the police, bcoz otherwise I don't think we will get the permission

Secondly, a few days back I wanted to contact Muslim central committee office to confirm if the protest Wil be there. I googled for the no, but the no. did not exist. Does that mean the Muslim central committee does not have an office or telephone no????

This only shows how organised we are.

Requesting Muslim central committee to get their house in order. Get more professional. Also consult people to utilise various platform to responsibly collect funds from so many ordinary bearys who want to donate money, but don't know whom to send it to.

We need an action committee to handle such situations. It must consist a battery of lawyers to fight the cases filed by the police.

If our leaders are old, they need to groom new leaders into the committee.

Moreover, it is important to question these so called leaders about their fecilitation program conducted for making kateel wen he won the election. Wat was the purpose of such fecilitation. Becoz I don't think he gives a damn when our community suffered. I question, whether all this is done in our name only to gain your contact and flourish ur business???

Never ever dare to do so in the name of Muslims
