Armed forces personnel arrested for misbehaving with women in train; released on bail

Manipal, September 5: Five Keralites, said to be armed forces personnel, were arrested by Konkan Railway police on Monday for trying to outrage the modesty and misbehaving with fellow women railway passengers on board train 12618 Hazrat Nizamuddin–Ernakulam 'Mangala Lakshadweep Superfast Express'.

The accused have been identified as Sujit T V (29), from Charatuvil village in Mallapuram district, Deepesh ( 22), from Bovikan in Kasaragod district, Anandan K from Kandalo village in Alleppey district, Santosh(39) from Parchalil village in Calicut district, and Deepesh V K (24) from Cheminecheri of Kozhikode district.

They were arrested based on a complaint lodged by Gracy D'Souza (62), resident of Andheri West, Mumbai, who had boarded the Coach Number S-10, with her family members in Delhi on last Saturday.

According to the complainant five among a group of more than 10 people, who had boarded the same Coach at Delhi station, began to misbehave with her and her sisters as soon as the train left Nasik station in Maharashrta.

She accused them of using filthy words and going to the extent of touching their body when they were going to the toilet.

The arrested were released on bail after being produced in a local court.

Mangaluru, Apr 15: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh has written to her counterpart at Valsad to make food and accommodation arrangements for two persons from Puttur who are stranded at Ambergaon village in their district due to lockdown.

Valsad is a district near Gujarat-Maharashtra border.

Ashik Hussain and Mohammed Takeen Maril, have been stuck at the RTO check post of Ambergaon for the last 21 days. The duo have been staying in their car, without proper accommodation or food.

Mangaluru, Jun 9: Two days after he went missing under mysterious circumstances, a 33-year-old man was today found dead on the banks of Netravati river at Ullal Hoige on the outskirts of the city.

The deceased has been identified as Chethan Acharya. A missing case was registered on Tuesday morning at Ullal police station.

It is suspected that Chetan might have committed suicide due to depression. 

The missing case was later converted into the case of unnatural death. Investigations are on.

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Former Minister and Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader has gone into self-quarantine after former MLC Ivan D’Souza tested positive for coronavirus. 

Mr D’Souza had met Mr Khader and many other Congress leaders a day before receiving his throat swab test results. 

Mr Khader announced on twitter: “Have gone into self-quarantine with immediate effect after receiving the news about #Covid_19 positive test of Former MLC Ivan D’Souza & his wife Dr Kavitha. Being COVID Incharge DK District taskforce committee, I am one among Ivan's primary contact.”

“I am going to discharge my duties from home for the next few days. You can reach out over phone at any point of time. I appeal to all my colleagues and friends who may have come in contact with us in the last few days to get tested for #Covid_19” he tweeted.
