MIC launches new dual degree Master's Programme in Film Art and Filmmaking

Manipal, September 9: The Manipal Institute of Communication a constituent of Manipal University, in collaboration with EICAR, the International Film and Television School, Paris (France) is all set to launch a new dual degree Master's Programme in Film Art and Filmmaking from the academic year 2011.

Varadesh Hiregange, Director of the Institute has informed in a press release that this course is the first of its kind which offers both Indian and foreign degree in MIC. The course will commence in Manipal on September 19.

The common goal of this programme - one year in MIC and one year in EICAR, Paris was to prepare students to find employment in one of the five major disciplines directing, production, editing, cinematography, screenwriting - of audio-visual production, whether it be film, television or new media.

EICAR is located in Paris which has a great historic legacy in terms of the medium of film - from the birth of the medium to the present day. Access to some of the definitive spaces, stat-of-the-art film studios, museums, exhibitions and screenings will be definite instruments in the holistic grooming of a student.

The first year at MIC will ground the students in understanding the medium from a socio-cultural-historic-economic-critical perspective with equal emphasis on hands-on training in audio-visual production in the digital video format.

In the second year at EICAR, Paris, students will specialize in direction, screenwriting, cinematography or editing.

This dual degree programme was realized with the guidance of the Pro Vice Chancellor of Manipal University Vinod Bhat.

On successful completion of the course, students would be awarded the degrees of Master of Arts in Film Art by Manipal University and Master of Fine Arts in Filmmaking accredited by the European Accreditation Board of Higher Education Schools, EABHES.

A candidate for admission to this programme should have completed a bachelor degree course in any stream (which is of three or more years' duration after the 10+2 examination) from any recognized university, having secured not less than 50 per cent of marks in the aggregate of the total marks prescribed. The faculty coordinator of the programme is Sunil Bhadri. The programme would commence at MIC on September 19, 2011.

The Department of Preuniversity Education, Karnataka has declared the board exams or pre university I exam results. To get results online, the students need to log on to result.bspucpa.com and have to provide their registration number and date of birth. 
Apart from the online portal, the students will get the results via mail or SMS.

“The results of the first year Pre-University Examinations will be announced on May 5. The results will be sent directly to students. Hence, colleges will not be displaying the results,” said S Suresh Kumar, Primary and Secondary Education Minister. 

The pre-university course of PUC is a two-year course including class 11 and class 12 called PUC I and PUC II. It is based on PUC score that candidates can get admission to varsities.

Earlier, the Karnataka PUC 1 result was to be announced on March 27 which was postponed and hence the revised dates are announced now.

The board exam results have been put on halt due to the nation-wide lockdown imposed after the coronavirus pandemic gripped India. As of May 3, the number of people infected by the coronavirus in India had crossed over 40,000.

The HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had in a meeting asked state and central boards to resume their evaluation process and declare the results to curb any further delay in the academic cycle. The academic cycle has been delayed by over a month due to the coronavirus. Now, the colleges will start by September instead of July.

Bengaluru, Mar 30: Army personnel on Sunday distributed food packets and other essential items to the needy and sprayed Calcium Hypochlorite solution in Koramangala and Vanarpet areas amid the coronavirus lockdown.

The Central government had on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown in a bid to stop the spread of the deadly virus that has left several thousand dead globally.

A total of 979 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: The chemistry department of National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NIT-K) here has started producing hand sanitizers in view of its shortage in the market after the coronavirus outbreak.

The social initiative led by Arun Isloor, professor and head of the department, was launched by NIT-K director K Uma Maheshwar Rao.

The raw materials needed for this product were provided by the institute.
